Recently, I decreased looking for things on #YouTube because the platform, at least on mobile, is becoming an absolute nightmare. Instead, if I wanna find a review, like a book or movie review, I open the podcast app and search via keywords. Found some interesting podcasts this way, with an RSS feed so I don't have to be stuck with one app!
Creators, YouTube is actively harming your reach. On the viewer side, it's becoming a chore to open the mobile app and I don't watch 4 hour video essays at my computer. There isn't 4 hour video essays on podcasts yet, at least, none I could find anyway, but the experience is far less hostile! No product ads in search results, far less than 20 ads in one video, and feeds don't hide your content from me after I follow your podcast.

I encourage you to tell everyone on Mastodon social asking for a higher default character limit that, but actually provide them with links to other projects so your post will actually be helpful to the newcomers. Also, I'd love to see what your response is to other *microblogs* that have a default character limit of 2,000 or more. Do you think projects with a higher character limit by default like GoToSocial need to be more like Mastodon? Lastly, just because you have a large character limit, that doesn't mean you use it all. Just saw someone floating around the idea of charging email subscribers, but keeping your RSS feed free. I’ve never thought about it before, but an email list actually does cost money to run, and if you really don’t want to take the time to learn how RSS works, then you need to pay to keep the mailing list alive. I don’t know how I feel about this. On the one hand, it limits people that aren’t very technology savvy and it capitalizes off of their technology ignorance enough but on the other, RSS is free for us creators. At the moment, we're working on submenu items working with the mouse. Problem is they are very accessible to keyboard/SR users, but visually it still looks strange. 2 questions.

I am only speaking for myself here, but personally, I prefer to read longer posts rather than 100 tiny Micro Blogs broken up into threads! I wish it were easier for people to find instances with *huge* character limits such as mine! I think mine has more than 10,000? I haven't checked in a while. I find the act of reading threads to be a pain because not all parts of the thread federate, so if you have a super long post, such as on my instance, that's less people have to federate and or boost. For me, if I see a thread that is 8 posts deep or even 5 posts deep I just stop reading. Now if someone links to a blog post with a 3 hour estimated reading time? I'll sit down and read the whole thing! Basically, if it isn't 1 giant wall of text, as the kids would say, refering to blogs, I probably will stop scrolling at some point and read a long form blog post instead. @nprofile…q6te

Finished Onyx Storm and I strongly suspect this series gonna become a dark romance. Even though I am gutted at this ending, 2 more books to go! I can't wait for the Graphic Audio version of this because Teddy H just isn't doing it for me as Xaden. Nope. Gabriel Michael will always be my Xaden! Others will like the dark aspect of this, but I really am not liking the everyone giving into their darker sides because there was no other options. I'm kinda disillusioned with morally grey characters in fiction. Yeah, we get it, nobody is good or all bad. We get it, but readers love darker stuff so, fine, I guess? It feels kind of contrived to me to have good characters to turn dark and or evil because the author needs conflict. This directory is at https://fediverse.info/explore/people and lastly, I would use hashtags as directories. subscribe to a hashtag you like and that can help you find people too!

Teddy Hamilton sounds like a preppy kind of guide to me and I’m sure the Rebecca woman that is reading the audiobook is nice, and I know she has a disability as well so I hope that she makes a lot of money off of narrating the audiobooks, but I just can’t do her narration it just isn’t my yum! Gabriel Michael on the other hand from GraphicAudio, I will listen to anything he narrates. His portrayal of Xaden is really good! I could not help it. I went looking for spoilers to see who dies, because I can’t take Bodhi possibly dying, and there is a cliffhanger kind of at the end. Look four and five are going to be very heavy!

I was very busy helping other blind people get the audiobook onto their streams and or mobile phones. I got through the prologue and chapter one. Really good so far loving it! Absolutely loving it! I’m still going to probably read the GraphicAudio versions more because I like those better than the regular audiobook but it’s really good!

Free Scout appears to be an open source version of Zendesk. They openly mention accessibility and screen reader support in their documentation and right there on the homepage, which is good! Holy crow. 1 hour to transfer all my text files and Word documents I haven't converted to plain text yet over to a backup external hard drive and a cloud storage device? I really should take some time and convert those Docx files to .txt files, some day, but tonight I just spent about an hour organizing my writing projects folder because I was starting to forget which projects were drafts and which were completed. I should have streamed myself doing that, actually, so people could see me trying to keep all the private writings away from anything to do with my literary agent so I don't send him the mind blowing private journal wherein I had wild sex with a local Luddite hacker before he told me his love language was providing tech mutual aid and server administration to very cute tech writers and I melted like ice cream under heat vision!

This is why blogs and RSS will, still, be fantastic even after these new social media spaces pops up or becomes popular. If these #Fediverse platforms were at all smart, they'd honestly should just let the centralization happen and just take notes on what goes wrong, when, and then build against that so when the eventual #Enshittification of that new centralized thing happens, they would have built against it or preparing for it with better moderation, etc. One thing I am constantly amazed by is all the people that want everyone to be here *RIGHT NOW!* but here's a secret, if you build better, they will come to you eventually. The puritists comment really doesn’t make any sense to me because, what you see is purity could be someone else’s access needs or safety precautions or whatever, from my experience, the purists as you call them if they don’t like you, they’ll just mute you first so you’d never have to see them or interact with them but have you checked out any other fedi projects like the website leak, friendica, go to social?

Finally looking at other email providers! Does anyone have any suggestions that have a web interface in mostly HTML? Basically, what Outlook Lite used to be. Absolutely not at all interested in self hosting email. I tried Fastmail but in addition to not allowing me to use a VOIP number for registration, they are Union busters which means at some point they will degrade to the point of #Enshittification so looking for other options. Proton Mail is a hard pass for me. #Email

Tried #Ghost again via #PikaPods which is the best way to have a managed self hosting solution all in one, but anyway, I found the dashboard to be not keyboard friendly, at all. None of the buttons seemed to work upon activating them in the settings and even if they did, I couldn't find the modal that was supposed to contain the options. I didn't even wanna try the editor after the terrible time of going through the settings so I deleted the pod. The fastest I ever made a virtual machine then killed it. Gonna try some other apps. Audiobookshelf is fantastic but not accessible by my standards. Gonna try Fresh RSS next. Not that I know of, no. I am afraid not, but you can reduce duplicate boosts. If, say, someone boosts someone you never wanna see again, mute the person being boosted, not the booster. To your last point. I know boosts aren't likes. That's why I boost, to share it with others. I don't wanna tell the other person I liked it, I found it interesting so I want others to see it too. @nprofile…s9ap
