One of my more niche tech opinions is that file extensions should be for humans and not computers, but we've designed them in basically the opposite way
.jpg means "lossy compressed image you can open in an image editor". That's good, it's clear
.webp means "either lossy or lossless, animated or static". That's bad because it's unclear. It doesn't matter to users if it's the same underlying container if they don't know what sort of content it is and how to open it

If you are unhappy with the posts that are reaching your eyes, then that is a problem with your instance's moderation

I'm having one of those complete nonsense tech issues 😑
Both my Windows install and my Linux install can't seem to output audio over HDMI with my new GPU. I went through the usual hardware troubleshooting with updating my drivers and BIOS. I was convinced it was a GPU defect or incompatibility, but after booting from a live USB everything works as expected
Two different OSes having the same obscure problem is truly bizarre

While dated, I still believe in the vision of the internet as a public library - sharing information benefits everyone. The siloing of data we've seen over the past decade may be a minor cost for an individual, but represents a massive cost when multiplied by 8 billion people
As individuals I think we should seek to share our knowledge freely. As a collective I think we should seek to create systems to distribute knowledge freely as well

Over my 11 shameful years on Reddit I've made a bunch of tech support posts that I think have been pretty helpful for some people. With Reddit making their results exclusively searchable on Google I'd like to move these to a better place where they can be easily found and accessed by anyone. Is there a good option for this?
I could set up a personal blog but small blogs rarely show up on search engines. Stack Overflow is cool but only does Q&As, not guides. Is there a good platform out there?

It works, but not well. It's highly abrasive to remove surface stains, but removes enamel causing sensitivity. It contains bleaching agents, but not enough to do anything but damage gums. Strips are effective because they can use the necessary concentrations of bleach without damaging your gums
Sensitivity toothpaste exists to solve the problems of whitening toothpaste which are less effective than strips
Buy regular use strips

Somehow I had never tried flatscreen #gaming in #VR until now. I'm not going to say that monitors are obsolete, but I am going to say that competing with an Imax-sized OLED theater screen is going to be challenging
The best part is I don't even have a 4k monitor, but thanks to a Virtual Display Driver I can run games at the ideal resolution and frame rate for my HMD
Also hot damn #Tunic has some incredible music
