Watching a library burn is tragedy. It's loss. Lots of things are mass-market, replaceable but every library will hold some things there are very few of. Maybe no others. And when things are gone it can be impossible to bring it back. I know, I just spent 5 years of my life on a project that as good as it is can likely never be complete.
Watching a library burn because the fire was deliberately set is a straight-up obscenity. That it was set by fascists makes my blood boil.

Anyone else notice how the climate-related deaths are being normalized exactly like the covid deaths?
1000 die of heat stroke at Mecca, heat dome killing seniors in North America.

For the past several days I'm unable to reach the website of the government of Nova Scotia.
Browser makes no difference. Network makes no difference. I try it using TOR, same thing.
No website and no one anywhere saying anything about it.
A search for news brings a Global News story from 2017.
OK.
Thing's gone for days. Normal.

Would not pretty much anyone sitting on lots of money in Alberta these days also support this sort of thing? For example the heads of every other bank there?
Seems to me, and I could be way off base, that oil cannot defend itself any more without authoritarian support, and money people like money, and oil is money, so money people want fascism the way a toddler wants ice cream.
The wealthy in this scenario will kill us all so they can Midas it up in a fortified compound after the Fall.

Well, the action is all at City Hall. There are about 500 pro-trans LGBT at Province House while the conservative crowd are all here chanting leave our kids alone. I reckon there are like 200 "concerned parents" here to about 800 rainbow flaggers.

Intuitively the answer would seem to be yes, if only for the reason that no living being will thrive if stress and pressure on them consistently increase, and that is precisely the situation virtually all of us are finding ourselves in.
And it has been going on for some time now, so the effects have got to be accumulating, like digesting mercury, or living next to a source of ionizing radiation.
Is this why we're more willing to be led into bad places by demagogues now?

57 years ago, a Thursday, NBC aired the first episode of a new space show that would go on to transform society in ways big and small, inspire 11 spin-off series, several movie franchises and whole reams of novels, models, tie-ins and more.
It started as a pitch for " 'Wagon Train' to the stars" but became whole detailed fictional universes inspiring our own real one with a promise that we'll figure this all out and we'll be the better for it. That there's a whole universe out there.

Her books are excellent, almost dreamy, and very much worth detouring for.

I think it's a neat setup how the US Supreme Court Justices can just openly take bribes then tell the rest of the country to go fly a kite.
Since justice is more illusion than reality in any case, and always has been, in one sense this is just openly acknowledging it.
Traditionally as one ages out in our society, society is revealed as a bunch of arbitrary bullshit with only a tangential relationship to objective reality.
The open corruption is such a timesaver; /teens/ can see the truth now.

Oh, cool.
Florida seeks to overturn 15 years of legal precedent in order to expand the list of death penalty eligible crimes to crimes that aren't murders.
They feel that the old Supreme Court made that ruling and the current Supreme Court would not uphold it.
The Supreme Court's original ruling was based on the US Constitution's 8th Amendment from 1791 forbidding cruel and unusual punishments.
Guess 1791 wasn't originalist enough for them to deify, huh.

It is an annoying oversight that when folks transfer to new instances, their followers transfer with them, so you don't need to go re-follow them again but if you had them on a list, like "Halifax" so you can get local news and views, the list does not get updated with their new login so you have to go find their new profile and add them to the list manually again.
