I made a lucky decision years ago and invested in a couple of MLPs. They pay a "return on capital" and it is taxed at the corporate tax rate. Basically the income is tax free. Your taxes are more complicated to do with a K1 but it's worth it.
There's a couple that will pay $60k tax free on an investment of about $800k.
Look at Energy Transfer, Enterprise Products.
Magellan MLP used to be the best paying but I think it changed away from MLP.

My oldest son received a lifesaving award yesterday. He's a PO and did CPR on a guy who had a heart attack in jail - successfully.
He's the big guy shaking hands. Very proud of him.

I would appreciate prayer this week. We have traveled to Denver and I get a PET scan today, MRI tomorrow, then a visit with my surgical oncologist. I've been getting these checks for 8 or 9 years but I feel apprehensive this time. My symptoms have increased and we're probably going to step up treatment.
Every day is a gift. I asked God 8 years ago to let me live long enough to meet my grandson - he's 7 now, and 5 more came after him. I am blessed more than I deserve.

Red and white is her theme. She has hundreds of Hallmark and Disney ornaments, all still in the box. My job is to put them back in the proper box and tetras them into the plastic totes when we take them down. Several are 40 years old.

We have been doing fake for 20 years plus. Back in Utah we used to go up in the mountains with friends and cut trees together. It was a wonderful time. Here in the Midwest real trees are outrageous and no fun to get.

It's a weird cancer, usually very slow growing and doesn't respond to radiation or chemo. NET (neuro endocrine tumor) or carcinoid tumors.
There's a drug they are wanting me to start to slow down the growth. It is one I would be on the rest of my life and it's $9000 a month. Lanriotide.
Until about 15 years ago nobody knew about it - you have to use silver nitrate to see that the biopsy is cancer - otherwise it looks benign. I was diagnosed 9 years ago.

My wife wanted a taller tree this year, so we bought a 12 footer. It was up 2 hours and I had to fix a segment of lights that quit. Then we put the topper on and it was totally unsafe from my 8 foot ladder. So off to buy a 12 foot ladder. Expensive tree. Here's the old tree last year, and the new one. Old tree was 9 foot.

My stage 4 cancer is pretty active. The latest scan in October showed "greater than 20" lesions in my liver. 2 years ago I had none in the liver. My wife and I got the 2 shot jab because we wanted to visit a friend in the hospital and it was the only way in. She died and we never got to see her to encourage or say goodbye - all for naught.
I feel good and can do anything I want to, but stuff is growing in there....

I lost 2 of my old co-workers this week. 1 to pancreatic cancer (52 years old), I'm not sure on the other.
I've also lost 2 in the last 6 months to suicide. Guys my age, successful, people I've worked with for almost 40 years - killing themselves. I don't know what is going on there.

Reliability as a primary goal is not focused on cost effectiveness. Cost effectiveness often happens when you get it right, but the measurement of it is difficult. If you have no unplanned outages, how do you prove cost-benifit on your maintenance cost? All of your cost of unplanned outages is theoretical- so the engineers don't apply much weight. So, maintenance budgets are cut, and profits go up..... for a while. Then things start to break.

I was in maintenance for almost 40 years. At one time, my title was Manager of Maintenance and I covered all the states west of the Mississippi River.
Things have changed in the last 15 years or so. I blame how engineers are educated. The Just in Time warehousing, efficiency planning, cost benefit analysis - all designed to maximize near term profits. It was one of my motivations for early retirement. Maintenance of critical equipment requires a different thought process.

My new roof is on. We had a hail storm in June and all 3 shingle roofs had to be replaced. 60 Square, took 2 days. 6 Mexican workers started at 06:30 both days and worked non-stop. Incredible work ethic. Not an English speaker on the crew, owner and foreman spoke English but they were rarely on site.
Roof being torn off, and roof going back on.

Health update - I had another MRI yesterday and the tumors are growing and a new one appeared. Went from 1.2 cm to 1.7 cm so still pretty small. I go to my specialist in Denver next week, we'll see what he thinks. Chemo and radiation are pretty ineffective on this type cancer so it will probably be ablation or similar if we do anything. I feel fine most of the time, still doing whatever I decide to do. Thank you for the prayers - say one for my wife. She's worried.
