Alright friends! Hoot (https://spritely.institute/hoot/) is now available on macOS via Guile Homebrew (https://github.com/aconchillo/homebrew-guile). Should be easy peasy to install if you have Homebrew.
1. If you don't have it already, add Guile Homebrew tap to your system (you only need to do this once):
```
brew tap aconchillo/guile
```
2. If Guile is already installed with Homebrew, unlink it since we need a newer version:
```
brew unlink guile
```
3. Now, just install Hoot:
```
brew install guile-hoot
```
This will also install `guile-next` a bleeding edge version of Guile, so it might take a while if there's no bottle available.

I have barely worked on any of my #guile projects since the beginning of the year.
However! I've done some Guile at work! Yes, for real! 🥳 I work at @npub1m9y…tsr4 (https://daily.co). We probably (actually, we do 😉) have the best real-time video/audio streaming SDKs and infrastructure around (WebRTC and all that) .
Anyways, I've been able to hack on some Guile bindings on top of our #rust libraries (yep, we do a bunch of Rust as well) and I was able to build some cool internal tools all written in Guile. A couple of examples:
- Joining a meeting and playing some music (this one also hooking up some GStreamer).
- A tool that can launch fake participants and make them join and leave at random times and more. Great for stress testing stuff. We actually use it for large scale testing.
- Being able to play with these type of things from a REPL is actually wonderful. And since I hooked up GStreamer we don't even need cameras.
I'm very grateful to work at a company that allows me to work on fun stuff like this from time to time. Maybe we'll even open source the Guile bindings at some point.
So, if you need to build something with real-time video you now know who to ask.
