Gefolgt von einem mehr oder weniger langen Gemisch aus Meinungen und mehr oder weniger schlecht belegten Thesen, gipfelnd in einer Schlussfolgerung, die irgendwie bestenfalls halb zu beidem passt. Wieder etwas weiter, immer noch etwas Sonne: Stunden im Sprint. Alles schnell und nebenläufig, selbst die Pausen. Aus losen Enden von gestern werden lose Enden von morgen. Irgendwo klingen Signaltöne, die Suche in Bildschirmen und viel zu vielen Kanälen bleibt erfolglos. Unten ringen Paketboten um die besten Stellplätze in der zweiten Reihe, auf dem Fußweg geraten sich zornige Radfahrer und zornige Fußgänger in die Quere, wie üblich werden die Worte kurz rauher. Ein aufgeregter Mops rennt zwischen Autos und Mülltonnen umher und ignoriert den Rest der Welt, so gut es ihm wohl gelingt. Keine ganz dumme Strategie in solchen Momenten.

Serious question, no offense or provocation intended: With this stuff being baked into Hubzilla and, apparently, also design-wise into Bluesky / AT, can anyone out here involved with the #ActivityPub specification process outline why nomadic / easily portable identity isn't built-in here by design? Looking at the (to-be-expected) dynamics of instances going up and down, blocking each other or moving to newer, different pieces of software, this seems an absolutely obvious requirement, so I wonder why this has been left out of the standard / spec?

Mastodon, Pixelfed, Friendica können miteinander kommunizieren, sprich Du siehst Beiträge von Nutzern dort, kannst denen folgen, kommentieren, liken, teilen - selbst wenn Du auf Mastodon bist und Kontakte auf Pixelfed hast. Ich schreibe Dir gerade von Friendica, mein Pixelfed-Account liegt (noch) bei z428@pixelfed.social . So gesehen sind die miteinander "verlinkt", was bedeutet, dass Du strenggenommen nur einen Account brauchst - Du kannst ganz gut bei Mastodon oder Friendica Bilder posten und wirst trotzdem auf den anderen Plattformen gesehen. So die Theorie, und für den Fall brauchst Du keine unterschiedlichen Accounts auf unterschiedlichen Plattformen - einer reicht.
Aber: Dann loggst Du Dich üblicherweise auch nur auf Deiner Instanz/Plattform ein und tust alles von dort. Wenn Du Dich auf einer Pixelfed-Instanz anmelden willst, brauchst Du dort einen eigenen Account - dieses "Anmelden-mit-Mastodon" wird im Hintergrund vermutlich sowas in der Art tun (hab ich mir ehrlich gesagt noch nie angeschaut). In jedem Fall sind das technisch getrennte Dinge, liegen die Bilder, die Du via Pixelfed postest, dann bei Pixelfed und alles andere, was Du bei Mastodon postest, auf Deiner Mastodon-Instanz.

#[0] 😁 Indeed yes, Zuck and Musk are Jeffs too. But at first, compared to the actual Jeff running a Fediverse instance, Zuck and Musk are part of "organizational Jeffs" that are subject to certain (although at times vague and difficult-to-enforce) legal regulations. At a while ago I stumbled across this - denise.dreamwidth.org/91757.ht… - and I seriously wonder how many of the people running Mastodon / Fediverse instances know about that.
But, what's more bothering here: Do we make things better by just "replacing one Jeff with another", architecture-wise? Or should we instead throw much more effort at solutions such as ssb, *cough* nostr, ... to make people able to go without any Jeff at all (or, as a temporary solution, focus on approaches such as Zot that at least reduces dependency on that particular Jeff)? 😉
I'm not really opposing the current Fediverse approach, otherwise I probably wouldn't be here. But, as far as I see, one of the core ideas was that there are "small" instances of trustworthy admins running infrastructure for a somewhat closely defined community of people. While that sounds good in theory, it feels increasingly out-of-touch with reality... . Do we have ways to better "motivate" such a structure, or to get people to build more of these structures all along this way? From that perspective, generic "catch-all" Mastodon instances don't seem to fit in at all and still they're here and (apparently?) carrying quite a load of the users in these platforms...?

#[0] In my environment, I don't really see much people moving as of now. There's a crowd of enthusiasts leaving behind Twitter, Facebook, ... but these mostly are the folks that have been in many places already before, people that aren't hesitant to doing so. Most of especially my Twitter bubble is extremely robust, doesn't care much about Musk and is staying there without any second thought. That's where my motivations to get some of them "over here" just result in a "why", and I don't really have good answers satifying to them, at least in terms of advantages outweighing disadvantages / effort required for that. If "owning your data" just would actually be "owning your data" for everyone without being required to run a server, things would be quite a bit easier to communicate - at the moment, for most of these "owning your data" in practise means "trust some random person to host your data well" (either by running a Mastodon / Fediverse instance for you or by providing infrastructure for you to self-host your Mastodon/Fediverse instance). This really feels flawed in terms of "decentralization".
