@nprofile…c5n8 @nprofile…fc7h the Spanish minister of transport, when asked about the compulsory security theatre for high speed, said “we’re the only country that does it, but getting rid of it is difficult”. Which seemed very much a “I pick my battles,a nd this one isn’t worth it” response.
Let’s see if the battles he does pick are worth it. So far, the amount of investment into regional trains bodes well, if they follow through. AVRIL? Much less so.

@nprofile…c5n8 the thing is, in this case the attitude is “Interrail is bad, and we don’t want it”. The Spanish setup is just plain weird, but SNCF/Eurostar actively try to discourage Interrail on their trains, as they don’t see it as a valid revenue stream. I don’t have these issues with NS, or SCNB, or DB. And once you get past the reservation requirements, the actual SNCF/Eurostar/AVE staff don’t care at all.
I suppose the other attitude is “Railways should turn a profit”. Which has more to do with the (heavily-subsidised) air industry and car industry lobbying efforts than anything else. But, well, you’re much better versed in this than I am.

@nprofile…c5n8 @nprofile…0k9f actually, I’ve had more issues with Eurostar Red than any of the other companies. The prices are steep for Interrail, but the availability is mostly there on AVE and SNCF. Especially AVE, as they doesn’t cap Interrail seats.
Needless to say, I if wanted to go on Trainline and book this, I’d have no issue finding a seat. In fact, for the measly sum of 317€ I’d have a guaranteed trip that day.

@nprofile…c5n8 oh, I know. And at least I’m in Barcelona, where I have a fighting chance. International rail is basically impossible from any other part of Spain, except possibly to Portugal, where it’s merely difficult.
