July 4th is the anniversary of the day I got a scary reminder of why I should be sober. It's a small story but raw and not ready for public consumption. And it keeps me on the path, so I'm grateful. But it was scary.
In a few weeks, I'll be at the 10.5 anniversary mark. I can count on one hand the days of my life that are as significant to me as that day.
Anyway. I don't know what the point here is. Just, tomorrow's emotional for me, and also, get help if you need it. Sobriety is amazing.

Today it occurred to me, as I was walking Pete through a park, that I probably visually scan as skinhead trash to a lot of strangers: here's a blue eyed person of German descent you don't know with a shaved head and translucent skin lingering with a pit bull within 50 yards of your brown children. I want to figure out some kind of "we're both harmless" visual signifier so that people aren't uncomfortable. There might be nothing I can do here. Clown shoes'd probably be worse, huh.

Just got a well-deserved humbling when I (a stroke survivor) got mouthy about Fetterman using his stroke as an excuse for his right-wing heel turn. Got some important dots connected: If the damage to my brain had happened to my pre-frontal cortex, it would have damaged my capacity for empathy and compassion and rational thought.
I already knew that I'm lucky to be alive and that it's a miracle that I wasn't disabled. Turns out I dodged a third bullet and didn't turn into a MAGA shitbag.

I thought my career had beaten the love of programming out of me. It didn't. It just beat the love of doing professional software development out of me. Every honey harvest, I run a stupid 132-line Java program that I wrote to draw the labels for the jars. I wrote software to generate the labels so I don't have to manually create the hidden message in the labels.
My labels have hidden messages.
I wrote software to delight people, to delight me. No one has ever paid me to do this.

One of my favorite things about ordering mocktails is when they give them stupid dad joke names.
Tonight I had a raspberry one called The Old Razzle Dazzle and an orange one called The Chronicles of Naranja.
I didn't even really want the orange one, but how do you not order The Chronicles of Naranja, that is a bilingual dad joke deep cut, I am in awe
