The reservoir of one of, if not THE Last Great Hydroelectric Dams built in North America, #SiteC in Northern BC, is being filled. Generation is expected in December. Full power next fall.
Incredible, legitimate, controversy getting this project going, and seeing it through to now.
I'm not sure we'll know for years or decades just how bad or good a decision this will have been but one thing is for sure, the landscape is forever changed.

Bog filter update! The marsh marigolds and hasta are doing well in the top of the barrels. The water has not cleared yet, it'll probably take at least 3 weeks for the bacteria to establish in the filter. The ponds are doing well. The increased flow into the top pond raised the water level by 5-10cm and caused it to escape in a few places but that's fixed and we are back to replenishing evaporation every two days with the overspray from the watering system. #pondlife #gardening #water #plants

If you are wondering, each barrel is 50 US gallons. It'll be something less than that with all of the rocks. I filled up the last 10 or 12in with pea gravel yesterday. That will be what the plants in the top of the barrel will grow in. For now, the top outlet going back into the ponds will be just the regular hose connections from the top of the barrels. Those will probably not be big enough, but I'll use that for now and then see what we do next. The spigots are clean out valves. I'm using the black drainage pipe to direct the water from the valves away from the pond and the rest of the garden just so it doesn't get waterlogged. #pandemicPond #pondlife #garden #bogfilter

"commissioning" begins! I am filling up the barrels for the first time. Then I will flush them out completely and continue flushing them to let the water flow over all of the rocks inside. Need to get all of the dirt and dust from the rocks out of the system as much as I can. I am quite happy with the position of the barrels. The plan is to plant things in the top that will hang down and mask the barrels a little more. Some ferns perhaps, and hopefully some sort of hanging flower that won't mind the shade. The top inlet pipe is still to be cut down to size, so it's current sticky-up-y-ness is temporary. I'll surround the base and spigots with some large rocks as well to get it to blend in. PHEW! Most of the heavy work is done! I levelled a little spot behind the top pond between the hedge and large lilac bush. Moved the barrels into position, and layered in large rocks 🪨 on the bottom to protect the plumbing and provide lots of space for water and debris to collect. Then I filled it up to 40cm below the top of the barrels with 1in river rock. The top layer will be pea gravel. Mañana! #pandemicPond #pondlife #garden #bogfilter

Plumbing nearly done. Just need another T piece for the top inlet but the bottom is done including holes drilled into the pipes for better distribution. Found the waterfall sealant that we used in 2021 when we first built the ponds and it's still good! Used it to foam up/seal the various small holes in the rainbarrels. I am going to start by using the barrel's top drains to feed water back to the ponds but I only need one from each. #pandemicPond #pondlife #garden

YAY. No change in the water level overnight. Which means it is watertight! It's also a perfect day to work on this. It has finally cooled off, it's cloudy, it might even rain! Success!! It's took a good month of intermittent persuasion but we finally managed to get all the pipes through the grommets into the barrels. The barrels were not perfectly smooth so some trimming was needed to make the seals go in properly and then convincing the pipe, especially the one between the barrels, to go in was hard!

A great video explaining exactly how and why the crowdstrike crash happened and how to fix it.
TLDR: Crowdstrike basically acts as a device driver. The bad virus definition update included a bug that crowdstrike had no catch for so the system BSOD’ed like any driver error would. To fix it, you just boot in safe mode, remove the downloaded virus definition text file (#291) from crowdstrike’s directory, and restart.
(No 15 reboots needed)

I am embarrassed by the actions of my employer, a public University, against its own students and values. It is facing unprecedented cutbacks and layoffs due to years of financial mismanagement. It claims to be “decolonizing” its education. Yet here it is, refusing to engage in dialogue and instead threatening students with expensive legal action and dangerous police action after the “threats” posed by: poster-making? chalk writing? chanting? singing? studying? reading? It turns out after immediate questions were raised last year, the Canada ad regulating agency agreed in January the campaign was misleading. But all decisions are CONFIDENTIAL and there is NO enforcement! The decision was finally leaked.

ICQ is finally closing forever!
I am a tiny bit sad. If only because now I will remember a number -- 23149880 -- that is truly and completely obsolete. I really need to conserve brain space for more important things.
Also, if ICQ can last, what, 15 years? after it became irrelevant, what does that say about how long we're going to have to suffer with Twitter/X if people ever actually leave en-masse?

So Fediverse people are replying to [@potus](https://threads.net/@potus/) on the Threads account. (eg. https://www.threads.net/@potus/post/C5R2tfZLYXD ) "He" can't see those replies because Threads doesn't allow them through, but we can reply to ourselves on the Fediverse side. It's weird.
Questions:
1) If I wanted to send a link to someone (including the OP/POTUS) so they could see that Fediverse reply stream what link would I send? I guess it would depend on who replied from what server and if they are public? (eg. https://mstdn.party/@seibelsays/112204482012631501)
2) I guess a case can now be made to Threads management [@mosseri](https://www.threads.net/@mosseri/) that one way federation is limiting the freedom of expression of citizens to be heard by their politicians? lol. Or maybe you don't need to go that Musk-ian route. You can just say it's really weird to be able to see and reply to someone on Threads but thise replies can't be seen by the Threads user. Like really, how stupid. 😝
3) I may create a Threads account specifically to advocate for Federation asap , and to encourage people to leave Threads. 😈 Especially while the #e4769 petition is on.
Anyway, I see it as inevitable now that Threads fully federates and becomes interoperable with #Mastodon and the #Fediverse.
As a proponent of the #OpenSocialWeb, no matter my opinion of Meta, this is what the Open Social Web must be, a mix of commercial and non conmmercial, evil and not evil, blocked and not blocked.
The mix will mirror the wider Internet and society and that is far far better than the monopolistic, closed, Social Media behemoths we have had in the previous era.
That's why Federation of #Threads is good, Very good.

there is also the possibility that by opening up the fediverse connection, people slowly migrate to non-corporate, non-algorithmic, open social media. That would be a truly wonderful development for the web. Thanks for encouraging your followers to do so. You're the first threads.net account I have followed (aside from the ceo guy). 👍
