Breadcrumbs: If you switch pkg from QUARTERLY to LATEST on 14.1, you can install the Python 3.11.9 runtime (and dependencies) without having to run 15.0 (CURRENT). My install of 14.1 defaults to 3.9 (and quarterly), perhaps they are getting ready to move 3.11 in the next release? Dunno.
There are no real tunables for scikit-learn in FreeBSD ports Makefile. It's just scipy and c++14.

Benchmarking R/Python workflows on #FreeBSD 14.1 and #Debian Stable (12.5) on an 8-core Intel machine. Performance in R is comparable (R is faster on FreeBSD, but it isn't statistically significant). But latency for Python 3.9.18 on FreeBSD is terrible compared to Debian. It get's worse the more CPU cores you use. This was unexpected (for me). Is this a known issue with Python 3.9 on FreeBSD?

A reminder to always test for autocorrelation in our predictors and partial out autocorrelation if it's not central to our analysis. Statisticians that work with spatial or temporal data have to deal with autocorrelation all the time. They are trained to look for it and account for it.

I thought the change in licensing (and community positioning) associated with #HashiCorp around #terraform was weird and signaled bigger problems. It's not that the company suddenly opposed open source software development. They need cash. And fast. 😔
I like HashiCorp. They are one of the only alternatives to managing vast compute resources on prem or in a hybrid cloud outside of Google/AWS/Azure. I hope this work doesn't get dropped.

My guess is they are really afraid of making "bad" hires? The way to fix this is usually to recruit folks that are mid-level or entry-level, train them up, and hire internally for leads and seniors. But to be honest, a lot of tech companies have a retention problem with top talent. They tend to leave when they find better pay or better culture.

@npub15cv…gemw dynamic pricing is just a way to raise prices in an environment where margins are really low and consumers are sensitive to inflation. I feel for smaller firms trying to make it work in a market dominated by Kroger and Walmart. But, if given the choice, there's no way I would choose to shop at a store where I don't really know the value of the things I am buying. Smaller grocery stores should just raise their prices and be transparent about it.
