@npub1ctz…d0jk When they built a new housing estate in a neighbouring town, one of the planning conditions was houses having "swift bricks" etc for swifts and house martins to nest in. Always good to see these accommodations being used.

@npub1yln…e2vv That pdf is a great resource but it had a few misprints last time I looked so double check with another source (easier to do once you have a name, obv). The Cymraeg wicipedia seems to be a good source of local name variations but only if you read some Welsh.

If we ground all private jets it would have an immediate positive effect on climate change, and in the longer term it would stop billionaires believing they can survive problems by jetting off to their bunkers, mega yachts, private islands, and third homes.

@npub1yln…e2vv The FT earned a surprising amount of respect from me during the worst of the pandemic. They presented facts and figures clearly. Of course they also editorialised those facts and figures but they didn't lie or twist reality, even when it didn't suit big business. I bet it earned them more subscriptions than they lost too. Some business people might want out-going propaganda to others but they all want accurate incoming data for themselves.

My penultimate "wild" post: Self-heal, which is Prunella vulgaris in botanical Latin or in Cymraeg it's Craith Unnos (meaning "heal overnight" but literally translates as "one-night scar", aka Y feddyges las "the blue doctor"). Grows short in mown lawns and taller in uncut meadows but never an attention seeker. One of my favourite plants. :ecoanarchism_heart:

A naturally pleached tree trunk, i.e. two plant stems joined together into one. This is sycamore but there's wind pleached oak in the same wood, and I've seen beech elsewhere. Also human laid hedges of coppiced hazel that have grown into living wooden walls, and lime pollards in a row with pleached branches.
British folklore claims that whatever passes through such a hole in a tree will be healed: ambiguous liminal space, simultaneously inside and outside the tree and the world, can intentionally be passed through safely by a person but their dis-ease can't follow and remains at the threshold.
