They presented facts and figures clearly. Of course they also editorialised those facts and figures but they didn't lie or twist reality, even when it didn't suit big business. I bet it earned them more subscriptions than they lost too. Some business people might want out-going propaganda to others but they all want accurate incoming data for themselves.
