I know "still on the Bad Place" and "not a jerk" seems like a contradiction, but he is, just, kind of super bad at the sunk cost fallacy and has always had a lot of inertia. Plus some current stuff going on that's not my story to tell, so, like, give him some grace.

Hey, so, my spouse finally is leaving The Bad Place and coming to Mastodon, I think.
What instance do I tell him to join? (Mine would probably let him in, but as code-affiliated as he is, his library affiliations basically stop with me, so far.)
Him: developer, nerd, likes space and number theory, likes video and board games, Eagle Scout, doesn't identify as LGBTQIA+ but isn't a jerk, and often forgets to go outside for his mental health.

My toxic work trait is reminding coworkers that they can say “no” to unreasonable requests, even if that isn’t presented as an option.
Sometimes it has to be softened to “in order to take this on, I’ll need to stop doing x, y, or z; please help me prioritize.” But that is still a form of “no.”
We can’t say “yes” to everything, at any level of any organization.
