Urg, it is particularly disgusting to see not one, but two ex British Prime Ministers at the RNC. Particularly so that Boris Johnson and Liz Truss made support for Ukraine so central to their political brands. Seeing the Trumpification of the political right here in the UK is nationally humiliating.

When I’m browsing artist's bios, I see #NoAI a lot, but there's still a lot number with #NoNFT. It's been an exhausting couple of years, huh?
On the other hand, NFTs turned out to be a bunch of nothing in the end, and I feel like just ignoring the whole thing would have worked.
I feel like maybe this is true of AI ‘art’. It's boring. It doesn't even need a backlash.

Has anyone got any recommendations for interesting* web #hosting? I am currently on Linode, and lets just say I don't feel entirely sure that I am the sort of customer they care about since Akamai bought them. I don't need anything special, just a small Linux VPS.

@npub1zdp…vqv8 Yeah, I mean it feel like a dangerous technology for those reasons, but I don't think a small slice of the nerd world opting out of it is going to acheive anything at all.
And if you don't believe in the doomer terminator scenario, the best option seems to be to engage with the open source versions, and try to guide them to be good and useful.

@npub1kpw…xzz4 I don't think this works -- the "subconscious" is a whole heap of stuff like raw signal processing that would utterly swamp minds without layers of abstraction.
I don't think we can know what layer qualifies as conscious without direct internal experience of it.

Trying out some #Android #Mastodon clients. I dont think they are as good as the iOS ones, in general. Of course, this could just be my Apple-way bias, but switching between timelines and lists is way clunkier, for example.
Megalodon is the one I like best so far. If you're on Android, what's your favourite app?

I think Threads is going to do it. They launched in a hurry, missing so many features.

For those of us who plan to federate with #Threads, we really need to do a better job of communicating to people that they will be able to interact with Threads from Mastodon, and that it is the superior choice.
Some people here are getting Threads accounts, without realising it will soon be unnecessary. People on Twitter are pretty much in the dark about the whole thing.
