I’m also interested in your recipe if you’d care to share. We don’t eat a lot of bread, but every couple weeks my wife bakes a simple sourdough bread. I think it has five? ingredients… often when we are having company over.
Everyone really likes it except my picky daughter… I love that girl, but she only wants white sandwich bread from the store, and sadly she is stubborn like me! LOL 😂
My grandparents ate a dark bread like pumpernickel or rye, but I didn’t like it. Would be willing to try some again if I could find a fairly healthy recipe

How about working to buy American where you can? Get to know your local farmer, rancher, beekeeper, etc. Learn skills to build stuff when possible, barter or trade when possible, use BTC when not… Lightnin, Fedi, cashu, etc.
Maybe try to minimize what you feel you need from other countries? That’d be a way to cut down on how many taxes you get charged with. Cutting it to zero would be hard to impossible, but… good, better, best. ;-)

#homesteading Have a friend staying with us for a week while his parents are out of town. He brought over a couple lambs, so maybe the wife will agree to add a few more animals to our farm after this week… :)

You get fungally dominant compost. I highly recommend looking up Johnson Su bioreactor on YouTube… in bulk it sells for about US$500 per 50 pound bag and one bioreactor made from IBC totes should yield about 600 pounds after 1 year. Great stuff to inoculate fields with mycorrhiza!

My twins have started playing DnD, so I’ve been trying to print them up a bunch of minis, bought a bunch of sets of dice so they can share with their friends, and thinking about buying a set of the 2E rule books for my son since he’s been the DM! Wife says they’ve been having a ball since they play at our house. Kinda like Bitcoin, she’s an observer, but she checks in at times and provides a safe place to play. :)

Yes, we build and use double wall, modified Layens hives… 1.5” of raw wool between the bottom and walls and a pillow stuffed with a pound or so of raw wool inside the attic sitting on top of the frames

Been thinking about getting a couple meshtastic devices… in a small farming/ranching town of 320 people and my shipping container workshop is almost the highest point in the county I think. Was thinking about welding a 20-30’ tv antenna tower to one of them and putting a meshtastic node and small solar panel up near the top.
No one else I know of , near me though that uses it…

I’d also recommend the Fall Of Civilizations podcast. Very well done episodes with a lot of solid research, usually a poem or two read in that cultures language, what it would have been like to see and live through the end of your empire! About 18-19 episodes, often about 3-4 hours long… highly, highly recommend it!

Yeah, will take longer but be more sustainable if you replace those trellises that need to be replaced every few years with trees and train the grapes up into the fruit or nut trees. That way your trellises get better every year instead of degrading yearly… ala Mark Shepard.
Can prune grapes and producing trees at the same time to save on labor, and if you spread your rows out more and fence off the trunks and vine bases, run sheep and ducks or geese in between and get 4-5 yields on the same land, instead of only one. Throw in some bee hives every so often, anywhere from 4-18/acre. After 18/acre studies show a marked decline in productivity. ;-)

Looks like both hives have made it through the bulk of the winter. Had some pretty brutal temperatures this year, as low as almost -20F. I didn’t think the second one would make it, so I am thrilled about the design of these Layens hives! :)

#3Dprinting finally got my Qidi Plus4 ordered along with some PLA and ABS. Should arrive by Saturday so I got a project for this weekend! So excited for a non gen.1 Ender 3…lol
Now, to download Orca slicer and get some hands on learning with it! I did grab a two spool active filament dryer too, and remembered that we have a dehydrator I could use. Anything I am missing?

This is why I prefer to accept both, but as much as possible the BTC goes directly to savings and the dirty fiat is kept aside for monthly bills, or at least enough to buffer a 10-20% drop. My business also has a lower percentage of material costs and my labor rate can float even if not forever…

Well, not sure where the comms breakdown was, but I understand better now that the 4H club wants a talk on natural beekeeping, but at least a couple of the parents want to chat about getting started in Bitcoin!

Hello Nostriches! Wife just told me that at the 4H meeting in February, she talked to one of the leaders and they want me to give a basic (~15 minute or less) talk about Bitcoin! They also want some classes on natural beekeeping too, but please help with ideas or suggestions on a 6-11 year old audience on the very basics of Bitcoin.
Sounds like about 20 kids in grades 1-6, plus some parents. After 3 1/2 years living in a small town, I finally have some interest showing up but am still the only Bitcoiner I know of in this town of 320 people! Is there a good book for that age range? Mi Primer Bitcoin sounds like it is written for kids a bit older… but, am willing to help if anyone has interest in getting started. Can set up some with LN wallets on my Alby Hub, and can afford to give a bit of sats to some number of people to help with onboarding and for demo/practice purposes.

Love that stuff too! Need a lot of comfrey planted next spring. Already have 700 saplings ordered… redbuds, dogwoods, buttonbush, oaks, hickorys, some pines. Hope to grow from 2 hives this year to 10 next season (20 if possible!)
