when btc started it would appear the 10 minute wait was acceptable. if there are any that used btc in this time it would be great to know what the experience was like. pros and cons.
today's corruption of currency and the financial tools, makes 10 mins seem like a small price to pay for the freedom. the downside are the fees to do small transactions, which reduces the feasibility of using btc for minor transactions. yes there are some great l2 solutions. are we reinventing the wheel though?
if btc was unlimited transactions from the start and only installed small blocks for protection of the early network, would it be reckless to consider expanding the scope of operations to match the network scale?
the danger is ossification or stagnation. if nobody uses the network for anything other than huge payments, it is no longer the people's money. can l2s be locked out of the network? eg: can lightning be switched off/disconnected?

btc is being attacked on two fronts from outside and from within. satoshi's white paper spoke of nothing more than a medium of exchange. the store of value was never mentioned. it is arguable therefore the value is the medium of exchange.
crisis of confidence - small blocks, big blocks.
small blocks allow millions of nodes to run domestically. they also protect against 'dod' attack of the network. in the early days this was necessary. today with millions of users, less so.
big blocks allow for more and faster transactions. btc is scaleable. it always has been. spv made that possible, it is still possible today. the small blocks were only a precaution in the early days. so why do we still have small blocks?
small blocks make it easier for everyone to store a full node. given the full node is less than a tb, this is really not a something we should be worried about. most businesses run 40tb servers+. btc could expand the block size and still maintain 100s of thousands of nodes. so why keep blocks small? who wins?
in the short term those setting fees. in the long term, nobody. btc will fail to be of any value unless it is returned to being a medium of exchange. it is only an asset if it has value to people. if the network only handles the monster payments, what value is it to you and i?
dollar go up is completely the wrong thinking.
use btc to avoid fraud, corruption and dystopian rule. return to a free market and peace. the value in that is instant.
if you are in business or starting out price in btc. sell, buy borrow lend .... in btc and create the world you want for you and yours.
lets also open the discussion around block size again and stop the censorship from within. this way we win on both fronts. we leave fiat behind and move on with the world's best money.

this should be stopped at all costs.
this is the pinnacle of the "you will own nothing" concept. when banks fail next time round, creditors will become the owners not those who invested.
the assets will be funneled to this system and you will never see them again. it has zero benefit for the individual.
by way of example. you have bought your house and it is debt free. the bank still has your loan (even though it is paid) as part of their collateral to acquire further credit.
in the event bank fails and is one of those that does not get bailed out, the creditors will become the owners of all their assets. that includes your house as it is still a collateral item against their loan.
your house is now no longer yours.
note: just about every bank is in debt. FDIC is not going to save you this time.
same for any other asset you own.

bitcoin is money and money only. it is not designed for anything else, nor capable without potential destruction of the protocol all have been defending.
ethereum, cardano et al have their own place too. they can if they govern themselves appropriately be the engine of industry. if tokens are the method of intermediary exchange by agreement - then so be it.
ultimately everything settles in bitcoin. the only truly hard money.
that said, it is not there yet. it still needs to manage scaling and overcome miner centralisation.
if wiser heads than mine can bring these issues to the table and negotiate in an adult manner, i am sure the world will be a much better place for it.

understanding private/public keys. - if private key is meant to be private why do we have to use it for every new client? Nos2 extension was a great find for me but not well advertised.
spent considerable time trying to understand Lightning connections to Nostr (zapping) still nowhere close. not all nostr problem but every little helps. hugely frustrating and disappointing not to be playing a bigger part.

I am not a tech but I like a challenge. Start9 OS has definitely been that. Learning Command Line Interface (CLI) and trying to learn about Docker, Containers, et al. has been a steep learning curve. Still a long way to go. in the long run it hopefully pays off. pain now gain later.
You could go an an easier root and enlist the services of many of the great engineers here. this will let you focus on you and your goals.
You could also look at MyNode. easy set up and very comprehensive set of apps and integrations. If you get the $99 package they have a great support team.

used both. both will get you basic BTC Lightning nodes setup.
Umbrel, is a platform that sits on your operating system. it is easier to understand for non tech and has an extensive range of plug and play apps.
Start9 OS is definitely more tech oriented. It is an Operating System with some ready to go, plug and play apps but limited number compared to Umbrel. that said those with tech skills and knowledge of docker can load and run others, with reduced risk to system . accessing cli requires shh, which makes it much more hands on.
umbrel on linux is due a major update (assuming it hasn't happened). could be a game changer. mac win updates have already run I beleive.
If you run a blog, podcast or similar, Start9 offers platforms to do so out of the box. Haven't found these options on Umbrel.
Both are run on 2010 laptops (Umbrel on Linux) - and run faultlessly.

I am no expert in your areas. However, being in the same boat, I look to countries and areas where BTC adoption is greatest. Africa, India, Asia and of course El Salvador. Learning what projects are leading the adoption. eg: Telecom companies like World Mobile. Its basic infrastructure now. If the economies they support grow, so will their infrastructure needs. Jobs that could well be paid in BTC. If the jobs you need are not there, are your skills transferable to the industries that are employing?
Alternatively a much more basic and homegrown approach, is do your daily weeky shops with Lightning. Encourage the businesses to download a Lightning Wallet, show them how easy it is to take a payment. Its cash off the books. More importantly it is money that is beating the cost of inflation. All profit no pain.
It starts with one. Barbers are a good start - they have time for a chat 🙃 Just build from there. Ben at @npub1rxy…hnp8, has a great playlist around this.

given this is the default survival mode, it is best to find a solution that most can adopt and manage.
you talk of bullies. remember the schoolyard bully - how many walked away in tears? how many avoided them at all costs?

.... the real danger, is that one of them will try to press it.
their system has to be disrupted, dismantled, discarded.
draining the swamp, come election time is a start.
the chaos of a free market post election will hammer their portfolios not to mention how long it will take to build new channels of corruption, assuming they can. trying to mobilise an army when they nolonger know who is in charge ....

perhaps come election time you vote for anyone who is not in office.
have a complete reshuffle. it may cause us issues bit it also going to slow them down too.

the bones of this thesis are excellent. we place the views of those closest to us, far higher than those of a total stranger. it therefore stands; if the reviews we see are garnered from those closest to us ... they are more likely to encourage the required favourable action.

Henry Ford once stated that you get 1 good review and 49 bad reviews. sadly little has changed.
Nostr, as a community seems to be making great inroads to change that. everyone wants the good ideas to work, they happily support each other.
sure once in a while there is a rant, but seemingly they too are well intentioned. so the 1:49 ratio is looking more like 49:1
that may all change when the facebook mob get here 🙃
