Industries and most of the loud media belong to the billionaires who also buy out the governments. So it's really just billionaires and their rich caste.
They profit from the status quo the most since they can get most of the things they want. Industries and governments don't really profit from it, because eco-disasters endanger their business/chance for re-election (though I doubt most people in the relevant positions can see that far in the future).
Over here in Germany the average CO²t/anno/person is around 10 CO²t. If you break it down, the richest 1% actually does 105 CO²t/anno/person in average and the richest 0.001% aka 800 people are doing almost 12,000 CO²t/anno/person while the poorer people do 3 CO²t/anno/person.
Or in other words: Unless the majority realizes that the heads of the rich must roll, nothing will improve.

Die Leute müssen sich von der irrigen Vorstellung, dass die Medien nur gut-recherchierte Nachrichten unters Volk bringen wollen, verabschieden.
Medien im Turbokapitalismus sind am Ende des Tages profitorientierte Wirtschaftsunternehmen. Diese Unternehmen gehören Privatpersonen, und diese Privatpersonen verfolgen gewisse Agenden.
Und sogar die öffentlichen Medien sind nicht komplett immun gegen den Einfluss der privaten Medien.

The current politicians don't have the backbone to admit that many political crisis are directly or indirectly linked to climate change. If it's a natural catastrophe, they can act compassionate and give empty promises since "it's nature and thus out of their hands," (or so they and many of their voters believe at least) but political crisis like wars in Africa happen in the political sphere and thus have political responsibility - something Western politicians don't want to owe up to since they're worried about the opinions of their puppeteers and their next election.
We see the same behavior with Western politicians not apologizing for colonialism and theft of African cultural assets, for example. The politicians don't want to owe up to it, because it'd mean that they'd have to give back tens of thousand stolen goods and pay reparations. That's nothing they'd be able to tell their people since they'd need to fear that they won't get re-elected over this, seeing how many people in the West have an intrinsic colonial mindset.
Many tend to forget it, but politicians and parties are just a mirror of a country's society.
Nationalistic thinking and a blissful ignorance of climate change is prevalent in many industrialized countries, not only among the politicians, but among the populations voting those clowns into power.
Climate change will destroy those structures. I said it before and I will say it again. There will be a small time window when the current system will completely collapse because climate change will make it impossible for Western societies to ignore all the wrong they do.
The only question will be whether those on the left will have enough power to use that small time window to push a new democratic, nature-friendly, de-growth-based system into power, or if history will repeat itself, and people will choose the radicalization, leading to fascists and other right-wing movements taking power.
I would hope for former, but cold-hearted logic tells me that humanity will soon go through a series of unprecedented wars over resources.
IPCC says that we're currently on a course to reach +2-3°C by the end of this century, and even if we take this very conservative estimate at face value, such a temperature increase will mean the collapse of global economy and the loss of a lot of arable and inhabitable land.
As such I'd agree with "The reaction will tend to not be very 'green'. (Apart from the sense that military uniforms tend to be green.)"

If people don't take it to the streets, nothing will change. That much is already clear. As far as I can tell, most politicians in my country, Germany, and the US, are basically puppets of the rich capitalist playing their little power games. Or rather, you don't get into power, if you're not part of the establishment (which is why some smaller parties here remain small and play no bigger role even if their ideas might be good). It's kind of hilarious how many Western citizens lament over oligarchs in eastern countries, when their own countries have institutionalized the concept of oligarchy.
But anyway, I fear the time window for a peaceful change towards circular economy and planet-friendly livelihood is closing rapidly. Just take a look at this:

It's always the same. I see these kinds of news everyday, coupled with news about new record heats, forest fires, and other climate-change-induced catastrophes. Our politicians are all about promises and words, but when it comes to following up, they'll bow to the capitalists and their lobbies like the #FossilLobby.
And "luckily" we got the capitalist-owned media that tells people what they are supposed to believe, so that the majority of people (who don't have the time to care about such matters in the first place because the capitalist system makes it difficult for them to make a living as labor slaves) believes the current system will help us through this mess with a few tweaks here and there.
It's simply appalling and infuriating.
