Will they refuse to federate with a site that's entirely hidden behind a login page?
Or a site that doesn't have a web front end at all, and only provides service via, say, mobile apps?

@npub1j46…3gm7 I put a lot of work into a system like this, starting in about 2006. It was never about "everyone [has] their wifi routers open", because we realised from the start that this approach would never scale, but it was certainly about a "mesh network protocol" using WiFi.
Technically it was worth pursuing. It fell apart because everyone had their own agenda, and some of those agendas weren't about making the project a success.

There are a few of these solar arrays round here. My understanding, from talking to the local farmers, is that they're all built on piss poor land that's basically impossible to grow any significant amount of food on in the first place.
I don't know how typical this is.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 I thought this was "by design": rather than operating our own gas storage, we sell gas to the Continent in the summer and buy it back in winter - presumably because somebody once added it up and worked out that this way is cheaper.
I wonder how Brexit has affected that economic decision?

This could result in the beer becoming alcoholic, which is decidedly un-American.
