For the past few years I've become a bit of a grumbler about reinforced concrete. Its widespread use and unbelievably short lifespan in urban/architectural terms is rapidly becoming a planetary-scale problem.
"Early 20th-century engineers thought reinforced concrete structures would last a very long time – perhaps 1,000 years. In reality, their life span is more like 50-100 years, and sometimes less."

My thinking about ‘replacing twi**er’ has evolved. Nothing has replaced twitter for me as a news pre-filter or an academic network. I feel poorer for it; I’m sympathetic to people in many communities who say they need it. But it’s being torched; eventually its increased toxicity will stop serving folks.
Disinformation is bad(!!), and I’m beginning to think it is a good thing that news orgs are being forced to detach from the social media universe.

"Michael Gove’s department ["levelling up"] is handing back £1.9bn to the Treasury originally meant to tackle England’s housing crisis after struggling to find projects to spend it on.
"...including £255m meant to fund new affordable housing and £245m meant to improve building safety.
