So much of what I care about in computing boils down to: Can we please stop capitalists from being the ones to shape our technological reality? Can we please stop living in a cyberpunk world?
As such it goes beyond computing! I'm an anti-capitalist, a degrowther!
Let alone the injustice of requiring us to work to earn a living, the people who can afford to pay a living wage repeatedly prove to be terrible judges of what work needs to be done. So can we workers please judge it for ourselves?

@npub16uk…pv7k The thing which disturbs me is Labour being so disheartened they didn't even try to form a coalition...
The left-wing block did have the numbers if they could snag Winston Peters. Even if I hated his colonialist campaign!
Basically this all means none of the coalition parties have a mandate next to Maori or Greens!

People who overthink casting effective MMP votes, treating it like FPP. Conspiracy theorists. Those who feel threatened by decolonization, or by "gender issues".

To access the terminal on a remote computer we now typically use SSH. But today I'm stduying the client for its predecessor protocol, TELNET, as implemented by INetUtils.
After init'ing various things (i18n, the terminal & 2 ringbuffers for it, 2 ringbuffers for networking, the TELNET protocol uploading envvars & deferring to a supporting library, stdout/stderr, & compile-time maybe the TN3270 IBM terminal, a Cray escapes table, terminal state, & prompt string) & parsing flags `telnet` ...

I grew up in an Apple family, and had been dabbling in Linux-based systems before then. But when I found elementary OS I loved it & didn't look back. Especially now.
Professionally I still use Macs (or occasionally Windows) some, but I've got elementary OS there too.

It seems the time to remind you: I'm builing my own browser engines "The Argonaut Constellation"!
I see a need to illustrate an alternate vision for the web if we are to get the improvements we want. I see a need for a more modular engine to aid experimentation both regarding the web & elsewhere.
And well... Someone had to do it!

Preparing for my metathread hypothetical building a browser from logic gates, I've just found something interesting: Cryptography has been getting lighter-weight!
It might be easier to run SHA-3 or ChaCha20 on a retrocomputer than previous ciphers...
Certainly it'd simplify my narrative to focus on these modern ciphers!
