Preparing for my metathread hypothetical building a browser from logic gates, I've just found something interesting: Cryptography has been getting lighter-weight!
It might be easier to run SHA-3 or ChaCha20 on a retrocomputer than previous ciphers...
Certainly it'd simplify my narrative to focus on these modern ciphers!
