The right is great at naming things the opposite of what they are.
Burning/Banning books is not culture. It is a War on Culture, not a Culture War.
The left is terrible at being suckered in to using heavily weighted names, terms, & losing half the battle semantically before they even start.

Of course democracy is disappointing. That's the design. Gently disappointing everyone trying chart a middle course. Leaving everyone not entirely satisfied, because resources are finite & everyone wants different things.
Good democracy is mildly unsatisfying. That's it's point. It's the least shitty system we have.
Throwing mildly disappointing democracy away, for not being perfect, is insanity.
No #democracy is terrible for nearly everyone, that's it's main feature. #politics

Having soaked up a load of subsidies, & sabotaged several non-hypothetical transport projects, Elmo #Musk's #HyperLoop shuts down, having achieved little, but wasted much.
I wonder how many bus or cycle route improvements could have been made instead with all that money.

If you start a facebook account for example and see how they populate it with data and contacts almost immediately, how they suggest contacts etc. Actually I would think it likely. Happy to be disproved but, they're hardly going to admit to it upfront.
I wonder how much internet traffic is #Meta and how much global power consumption it represents.
We know on average humans on our planet spend 2.5hrs a day inside a Meta app.

Maybe he just got entirely clear from all the financial problems. I seem to remember he had a spending problem coupled with corrupt management on the take? For a while anyway he had to work like a madman. Maybe it became a habit too.

There is a conversation I have had a lot on corporate social media, not just Twitter. It goes something like this.
User A: "It is so awful that X platform is filling up with hate speech why won't anyone do anything!"
Me: "But you can do something, come, tell your followers, join a platform without the hate speech"
Them, summarised: "I'm staying here. I wanted likes, retweets, shares. I did not want solutions. I don't really care about the issues."

It really annoys me often far right figures claim they can fix problems they are often responsible for. Then it so often gets amplified/reported uncritically as:
"far-right guy says he has a solution"
yet the important bit gets left out or buried deep under the headline,
(this solution cannot work, and these are problems he & his fellow travellers are largely responsible for).

I would like to see groups / channels used in activityPub inside Mastodon and Firefish etc.
Ways of organising replies and grouping topics.
Hashtag are nice but more options for something more of a forum or Reddit like experience would be real interesting.

Sorting by recent, popular, undiscovered etc.
A better thread view that visually clearly shows when you are missing seeing the other branches and replies in a thread. (Firefish is a lot better for the thread view)

For a moment in november-ish I thought I was against quote-toots. Having had quote toots for ages on #firefish / #calckey it's not the feature, it's the users. Quote is useful sometimes, used considerately it's a good tool.

I don't miss that birdsite place at all. Maybe a couple of people, but many people I used to follow there, I find I'm fairly tired of the commentators commenting on other commentators comments. Tired of the sarcastic show-offy self-promote.
It's just a few of the people who are more information / solution focused I miss. I want new info, not a reworded same take.

Yes, but that is sort of my point. I was already annoyed in late 00s early 10s by dying of website traffic supplanted by Facebook etc. Google+ MySpace
I was extremely ready after Cambridge Analytica scandals first broke in 2016/7. I already deleted Twitter accounts in 2018 & 20 fed up by algorithms/trends/celeb based models shaping which conversations did or did not happen.
I was ready for a long time, but never encountered the info that an alternative like #Fediverse existed

I'm interested by the possibilities Barcelona p92 w/ever might provide for freeing others from corp social.
Personally I have been increasingly disenchanted with corp social for a good decade+, yet I only discovered there was any sort of alternative and that #Fediverse even existed because of Musk's actions during Twitter take over.
Fedi seems very/too laid back about reaching outside of it's chambers, promoting and growing it's userbase, offering people choice.

I'm posting generally more from my Calckey account @npub155j…r0zj but even though I like #Calckey a lot, so many cool features , I'm not going to migrate followers instead want to run both accounts.
#Mastodon has some cool stuff too and I like seeing how both develop.
I'm following everyone from both accounts, just downloading my follow .csv files and adding them to both.
It's so cool how you can do that in the #Fediverse, 2 platforms but see your people from both!

It appears as if many 'journalists' have been groomed to not even consider any other organisational models exists for humans. Just the ones that are failing on all fronts, inequality, environment, democracy, social good. Just the billionaires producing ones.

I find myself using like/favourite just to appreciate other people's conversations here. Conversations I only read.
It's not that I want to join in, as I may not have value to add, and not always that I learned something, but I find myself often just enjoying the social nature of shared exchanges here.
Social experiences that aren't, well, antisocial. And it's enjoyable to see. Gives one a little lift.
