@npub12hl…8amk Yap, the age of laser warfare might have finally begun in earnest. The Iron Beam truck mounted 100 kW / 10 km range laser might already go operational this year as well, which would be an order or magnitude jump.

Tonight in (what is now a recurring corner) "#ScienceFiction stuff that is now real without anyone noticing" - point defense lasers.
Like an actual 10Kw operational(ish) 1km+ range, you can fit one on a pickup #laser (or several on a ship) is something that actually exists.

Dear #reviewer2, we appreciate your suggestion, but further analysis could not be conducted. It's a shitty figure, but I think a very interesting one (#fantasy and alt-history #authors, please take note). It shows the distribution of global #wealth over the last 500 years. Note how narrow it used to be (the x-axis is in log scale) and how rapidly it widened in the last century or so.
We have come a long way, but there are still things to do.

Yes, your #coffee and your #cacao are at risk from #ClimateChange. I think we've established this by now.
Downscaling and transitioning to agroforestry (where we do not grow one thin in a field but integrate trees with crops) are some ways that may help in the transition to #sustainability. However, I don't think this would solve the fundamental reduction in availability.

Someone, please explain to me why spellers recognize a sentence as a punctuation error, offer a correction, and then, after you implement it, recognize the same sentence as having a punctuation error and recommend reverting it to the prior form?

I was vaguely aware of it and didn't realize just how low are low and medium orbits (#space is not that far away) and just how fast #rockets get to them... that is to say until I sat down to research and do some calculations for a scene I'm #writing.

If you ever wondered what is the most studied #geological period relative to its duration - it's probably the #Anthropocene* (in absolute terms*, it's probably the #Holocene).
*Based on the number of results in Google Scholar for the term. It's not the best index, but it's a decent first-order.

Another interesting bit about #storms and #ClimateChange: it's not just the local features (e.g. warm #ocean surface waters), it's also far-field effects, such as the rapid warming of the high latitudes.
