I hope everyone keeps in mind how things went down with the tariff brouhaha. Mexico and Canada “negotiated” and offered Trump peanuts to allow him to claim victory. My take on this is Jordan is offering to take in 2000 sick children, a tiny fraction of the over 2 million Gazan residents, and this is a very specific group that needs to be moved out of Gaza for medical care anyway. It would be nice if everyone could tell Trump to shove off, but they need to protect their people.

In this presidential race, the product that was a piece of shit did sell, very well. And others knew that piece of shit was what they were going to get fed if they didn’t vote, and they sat out the election anyway. It continually amazes me that people pretend the results of the elections are an expression of how they feel about the politicians running, rather than about the vulnerable who are affected most. Politics are ugly, and this election showed Americans at their worst.

I didn’t read it, but I’ve seen Meacham speak and watched him slowly evolve from “the US has survived rougher times than this.” I’m sorry that it took him, and countless others, so long to recognize the danger. It’s just exhausting to think about all the people who told us to not be hysterical in 2016. It’s a large part of the reason why we’re in this mess.

It’s what those of us have been supposedly “hysterically” harping on for years. Look at the ownership’s interests. If they are part of the power structure, they are not going to be willing to hold power to account. But so many will continue to pretend that their behavior is normal, that this is non partisan and actually a good thing. Whereas the Boston Globe published not one, but two editorials detailing why Trump is not fit to be president.

Yes. I went to college with my parents living 20 minutes away. I always lived separately from them. I visited every week, loved spending time with them, but was learning how to manage things for myself, how to live with others, making social connections and feeling part of the college community. Of course, there are always exceptions, but in general I would encourage parents to give their kids that opportunity to create an independent life at college. See how it goes the first year.

I see the replies complaining about dating apps (and they don’t interest me either, but I stopped dating in 1992). But Hinge actually worked out great for my son. A nice way to meet people that you wouldn’t otherwise, and connect with those who are serious about a relationship. Sorry to hear that they’re messing with a good thing.

The irony is that they largely sound like libertarians, but even more clueless because they presume that everything will just work out for everyone. Everyone will magically agree to anarchy, and nothing will rush in to fill the power vacuum this time, for the first time in human history. Libertarians love the concept of “freedom” bc they’re so sure it will work out for them, and they don’t care about anyone else. It really does illustrate the horseshoe theory.

I agree. There hasn’t been an election in Gaza since 2006, so I’m not really sure if Hamas even has as much support as Trump. I don’t consider Hamas representative of the Palestinian people. I don’t feel Palestinians or Israelis are well served by their govts. They deliberately stoke fear and hatred to maintain power (yes indeed, similar to the GOP!)

I’m not sure sympathy is the right word for what most people were expressing regarding the submersible. It caught the media’s attention because they knew it was something new and mysterious and exciting for their viewers. They don’t care if people are sympathetic or scornful.
