Yes. I went to college with my parents living 20 minutes away. I always lived separately from them. I visited every week, loved spending time with them, but was learning how to manage things for myself, how to live with others, making social connections and feeling part of the college community. Of course, there are always exceptions, but in general I would encourage parents to give their kids that opportunity to create an independent life at college. See how it goes the first year.
