Even small effects can be huge discoveries. It's obviously well known that electric current breaks water to component atoms, but to have that current available 5km down on the seafloor well below where sunlight penetrates is very surprising. It can't be a chemical reaction either, because the rocks' chemistry would have worn down over millennia. A heat related conversion? Huge in any event.

It's the "no consequence" part that's bothersome for the Ariane 6. Held to a different standard.
"In a November 2021 post, ArianeGroup stated that an example of APU’s versatility was “its ability to de-orbit the stage at the end of a mission in accordance with European space law by powering it towards Earth, so that it burns up on atmospheric entry.” Despite this, Sion did not appear to think that the failure to deorbit the mission’s upper stage was all that significant."

What's been bugging me about these Falcon 9 stories this week: the Falcon 9 did not fail. It lifted its payload to space exactly as planned followed by a 19th successful, clean landing for reuse.
The second stage Merlin also worked fine for its first engine ignition - so performed about as well as most other lift vehicles, ever.
What failed was the 2nd ignition for an orbital change.
Also, the Ariane 6 first flight didn't complete its planned orbital maneuvers.

Siis liki sadantuhannen lapsen ja nuoren. Vanhemmat siihen päälle. Ja taas jäi Helsingiltä kertomatta, että samalla verkkolevyllä oli myös opettajien, avustajien, jne henkilötietoja - tai jos ei ollut, niin sitä aiemmin lähes puolivahingossa annettua tietoa kuitenkaan ei korjattu.

Olisi virhe yhdistää kuluttajatason ChatGPT-hype tech-yritysten datakeskus-investointien aluksi. Sekä isot pilvitarjoajat (AWS, Azure ja Google Cloud) että joukko omiin tarkoituksiinsa koneoppimisratkaisuja kehittäneitä yrityksiä (Meta, Apple, OpenAI jne) ovat kasvattaneet kapasiteettiaan jo vuosia ennen ChatGPT:tä. Eikö tämä nyt ole ihan ilmiselvää? ChatGPT tarvitsi GPT-3:n, jota ennen oli GPT-2 ja GPT-1, sekä vastaavat mallit muissa yhtiöissä.

Not onlu are the orcs still gullible enough to think they're "defeding motherland", they're also stupid enough to think they haven't been sent to die with the full knowledg of their high commmand and dictator. So, although they complain, they go and die - without ever understanding they're dying for no cause.
The lucky few get captured instead - lucky, because Ukraine doesn't send them to die after capture.

Non-representational democracy is such a weird concept.
UK's Labour essentially maintained their voters, but gained over 100% more parliament seats. LibDem also gained nearly no voters, but octupled their seats to be the major winners of the election. Tories lost half the voters and 68% of their seats, while SNP lost one third of the votes for -80% of their seats. For each of the 4 seats Reform gained, a million voters cast their vote for the party, a 40x difference to Labour.

$400B debt vehicle now, serviced by russian assets' proceeds and eventually transferred to russia to repay, or $40B a year from the proceeds, or more that $40B but much less than $400B from a fire sale of those assets? Pretty clear to anyone but those who would like to purchase those fire sale assets.

Selling frozen russian assets is not the right move. Taking their worth of debt with the assets as collateral and their proceeds as the interest payments is. When russia loses, the debt will be reassigned to them to pay back - by selling those assets, if necessary.
That keeps the incentive of shortening the war and minimizing damages on the right side - leaving russia with more to lose by continuing the war.

I'm wholly unable to get either outraged nor otherwise excited about this #maven thing. Do I like someone feeding my posts into an AI? No. But what they're doing is something ActivityPub's design explicitly enables. Public is public. If you were expecting anything else, you were incorrect. I could dig up from my 2022 posts how I said this is happening (already then), but I can't be bothered - you can search for it, that post is also public.

What's now happening in #Georgia is absolutely a replay of what was happening there and in #Ukraine in 2004, in #Moldova 2009, #Belarus in 2006 and again in 2020, in Ukraine again in 2014, and so on. The people are demanding their right to be heard, and a putin-backed oligarch is using force to subdue them. We used to call these color revolutions.
