Serious question: when writing a bio, when should you include an updated company name even if you worked only for the previous company?
For example: I list that I worked for Swiss Bank Corporation and add “(now UBS)” because the former merged with the latter back when I was leaving in 2000. I don’t feel like I worked for UBS itself, but SBC hasn’t existed for decades.
Another company I worked for, 451 Research, was acquired by S&P Global after I left, and that former name is fading fast.
Does it matter if the company name is sufficiently old that people reading my bio may not remember it? Are the parens too annoying and/or pedantic?
I guess everyone has this problem after a long enough career, and enough M&A happens in the industry.

Note for new followers: if you’re looking for informative posts on cybersecurity/infosec, you’ve come to the wrong place. Yes, that’s my day job, but Mastodon is more of an escape for me. I post random thoughts, boost whatever I feel like, and respond to a few conversations.
In short, I’m tired. It’s been a very tough decade for me, and every time I feel like I’m starting to recover, something else whacks me upside the head. So if you like my curation of other people’s posts, great. But I generally save my deep thinking for work; you’re better off hearing me speak than reading this feed.

One of my treasured possessions is a book of poetry collected in secret by my best friend’s father from among American POWs in a Japanese camp during WWII. The poems were written on toilet paper, scraps of wood, and anything available. He and many other POWs survived the Bataan death march.

My husband died a week ago from a brain tumor that grew so quickly, he was unresponsive by the time I got to him in the hospital. The only thing he left was a scrap of paper in a secure location with the master password to his password manager, on one of numerous laptops that I couldn’t get into. On top of all the stress and grief, my long Covid is making it impossible for me to concentrate or figure anything out.
Tonight one of the most famous hackers in our industry made time to come over and break into systems until they found the database, and reset everything so I had access. I’m continually amazed at how kind and giving these folks are. My heart is fit to bust from gratitude. 💚
