Canada 🇨🇦 is approaching 15 million hectares burned 🔥 during this fire season.
We likely have one or even two months left of burning depending on weather. 🌧️ ☀️
This cumulative total blows past anything in the historical record. 📈
It’s the equivalent of of burning all of Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, or all of Greece 🇬🇷 and then some.
People are evacuating and losing homes. 🏃‍♀️ 🏡
Cites are filled with smoke. 🌆 💨
Our ecology is in upheaval. 🌱 🐞

The more I learn about #seafood and large-scale #fisheries #practices, the less of it I consume. The #tuna fishery is among the worst.
Quote: “Of the over 20,000 registered vessels catching and transporting tuna throughout the world’s #ocean, only a small portion are independently monitored.”
Lack of #regulation has #environmental AND #human costs with such vessels often treating their #workers terribly.
It’s good to see #change, but there’s a long way to go.

You probably don't think about #sewer #rat #ecology. Or rather, you probably don't want to think about it.
But Guo et al. (2023) did in this comprehensive review. This type of work is important for #public #health and control of #invasive #species.
Rats prefer:
🐀 narrow pipes,
🐀 low water flow,
🐀 older construction materials,
🐀 disrepair leading to nooks and crannies,
🐀 being near to houses and restaurants,
🐀 organic matter, for instance from sink grinders.
