Went on a double date to our local German beer hall with very close friends- one of which is a 28 year veteran of DHS- very very interesting dialogue- and he's on the same page as us. My boys go to a private loosely Christian school. For a rural school in the deep South it is fairly diverse.
I marvel at all the good ole boy's sons that ride their lifted 4x4's to school playing rap (rhymes with crap).
I walk in to my house this am from our men's Wednesday morning prayer time and my oldest is rocking Free Bird as he's lifting weights.
Our rebel ancestors would be proud! I bet the Lord is too.

I'm replicating the life I grew up in. Although, my dad was a much harder man than I.
My dad was and is a preacher and farmer who grew up a farm boy from a long line of Iowa, Kansas, and S. Dakota farm boys.
At the time it seemed like a hard life but I am now grateful for it. I reckon my sons will be too, should the Lord tarry, of course.

My boys jokingly refer to the parable of the talents in Matthew where it talks about a master being a hard man. They tease me about being the hard man reaping where I did not sow.
I am. They know I love them. I can live with my sons having this opinion of me.
When they're able to reason, rope and ride, shoot, clean their game, replace their engines, plant corn, build a barn, protect themselves and their loved ones, etc, they'll be glad their old man was resolute on these matters.

Hmmm.... The boy did come running telling me one of those gamer guys recognized him from one of the games he plays, one hour on Saturdays and one hour on Sundays, and not at all during the week.
I quickly investigated what recognized meant and found out he just recognized his game name, or something like that, but that doesn't identify him in any way.

I'd like some help understanding a strange matter.
I have a 9 yr old son that if he were allowed I'd bet he'd spend an entire day watching other kids play computer games on the youtube. It is not out of balance as his mama and I don't let our lads spend more than an hour a day watching anything and only after all chores had been done. When he has his choice it is always watching other kids playing computer games. Even after I've expressed right much displeasure.
This perplexes me deeply.

A few years ago my wife told me she wanted to plant more peach trees and I needed to clear another acre for her. When I realized they were a different variety I wasn't happy as what she had originally planted were great. The originals have produced and stopped producing. The new variety are just now producing giving us a whole new crop of fresh SC peaches. What a wise gal!
Now she needs to hunt new varieties that produce all through the year.

In addition to ranching I'm a contractor that works for farmers to plant and mow, for others that need mowing, grading, and light clearing. For the past 20 years hunt clubs would hire me to plant their food plots for deer and turkey. I do regular work for a builder as well.
Where all the other kinds of work are significantly slowing because of the economy the builder is booming.
It's because multitudes are moving to our red state, buying land, building, and paying cash.
It's getting strange..

Been smoking a 22lb brisket for the past 12+ hours. For the past 3+ hours the temp stalled at 150 degrees. This is that part of the endeavor when you finish well or dry and tough. I sure with I could figure out why that late-smoke stall happens.

My wife is enjoying her first of 7 days in Holland to do research. I'm now the lone ramrod of this outfit. I'm a fan of Adam's, if for no other reason, because he fathered the podcast world! Especially when I'm in my cab tractor, I listen to podcasts all day every day. This paradigm of learning anything I want is spectacular.
I've tried to learn more about computer tech but it's the same with quantum mechanics, which I find fascinating, if you don't have the basic language of a subject you're not going to be able to understand. I've abandoned my efforts to listen to these subjects.

Absolutely. I was excited about being a dad. My wife and I talked to the boy while still in the womb. It was all rich. The moment I heard that first gasp of air and his first newborn cry I was immediately overcome with a love I'd never known. Something seized me at the deepest level. I've not been the same since. I wish I could have 4 more children. I'd do it all over again, and again, and again.
