@nprofile…d2rl I did at one point, then I realized the company in question was even more internally screwed up (process wise) than I could ever imagine.
It seemed like most of our customers were small app developers, wireless companies, or big banks, so this didn't exactly happen often.

@npub1vyt…mgjn What was wrong with it? Our mixer got so it wouldn’t turn off, years ago. You had to move the switch to off then push it just that little extra bit and hold it there. Or unplug it.
It also lost the knob, just like yours.
After years of dealing with this, we finally got a new one last year, but still have the old one. If it’s a similar cheap fix, that’d be awesome.

I just noticed the security cameras on the corners of the structure. Kind of ruins it -- I wish they could've found a way to offload those to better-situated poles or something.
Sometimes, you just accept them as part of the infrastructure. A memorial like this should be...undisturbed by such minutiae. (though now I'm wondering where ADA access is, since that could have the same effect... Maybe I'm just being harsh.)

@npub15w5…tnqd @npub1t2c…d0pp We've really lost a lot, as a community, as Twitter imploded. Doesn't hurt that a bunch of folks temporarily came to Mastodon but have since gone back to Twitter (to say nothing of Bluesky and even Threads further confusing the issue).
I can think of one former con that's closer to 2023 Twitter than 2013 Twitter, but I won't speak ill of the dead. (and it's kind of a weak connection anyway -- more about assholery than anything).

@npub178r…qekt How do you compute the exposure for shots like this? how much of it is experience and intuition, how much is a light meter and a few charts? Or do you plug a bunch of data into an app and it suggests the optimum settings?
Or did you take a bunch of these 13 second exposures over the course of a day? (ack!)

@npub178r…qekt I love abandoned industrial architecture. I used to wonder about all the structures along the Clara Barton parkway (some rail bridges, some aqueduct, some I’ve never figured out). Bridges along Rock Creek with doors in the base. Massive concrete facade on a hillside (that one I know - the LoC facility in Culpeper). Lots more all over the DC area.

@npub1hvd…9sq9 It's like a GIF color map! (Actually, I wonder how close this matches the default mapping...if there was one). Did the cartoonist specify the colors, or did someone at the syndicate do it? (or did each newspaper do it, which meant that different papers could have slightly different colors?)
I remember being confused, seeing color dailies in newspapers when traveling, though damned now if I can remember where or when (since daily color in general was so rare). Unless I'm remembering online comics…

@npub1t2c…d0pp I sorta miss the old Civil Defense siren testing. It was especially wild when you were within range of multiple sirens and got kind of a frequency beat thing going. (they went away, at least in the DC area, I dunno, late 80's or early 90s…)

@npub1jv5…e22d I've always wanted a family tree photo app, for family reunions where I have no idea who the heck I'm talking to.
* Long press on a photo: see other photos of the same person, or add a new photo you take there.
* Swipe left or right: cycle through siblings
* Swipe up: see parents of current photo, tap to select
* Swipe down: see children and spouse of current photo, tap to select
Can also work for org charts (like in a corporate retreat, or a large staff/particpant multi-day training course, etc.). Basically, anywhere that there's at least some structure and lots of people you need to keep track of.

Um…. This seems like a bad idea? Even if the circuit you plug it into has a 20A breaker, there’s no guarantee the outlet in the wall is rated for 20.

Sadly it’s been too long since I’ve spent much time there, so I can’t suggest anywhere to stop for food or sights. But enjoy your visit!
