OMG I just realized how the D terminal border crossing at Schiphol works, and my brain is exploded.
The gates are on the lower level, which is international arrivals. They can be either opened to that level, or to the stairs above, where the corridor is in the EU Schengen Zone. That way they can adjust the number of gates they have on either "side" by just locking doors. Clever!
Of course, to get from one level to the other, you walk about 1km all the way around and go through immigration.

The Redis thing underscores a key point: _open source is not enough_. We need _community built software_ -- free and open source licenses are just one aspect of that.
If a company requires you to assign copyright (or equivalent re-licensing rights) in an asymmetrical way, they will inevitably eventually decide to take that option once they want to cash in on the goodwill you've built for them (let alone the code).

OMG. I signed up for wired.com digital about a year ago, because, hey, I can pay for journalism.
It said it would auto-renew, but I could cancel any time.
However, I CANNOT cancel, because in order to get to my account information, I must "confirm my account" by _providing a number from the physical magazine label_, which of course I do not have.
I contacted support, and they "can't find my account". Funny, because someone sure found the account to bill.

It's pretty crazy that Google could literally and with no recourse ruin your life by taking away the email address you've had for two decades in retaliation for: you using add-ons officially available for their web browser (without which, no one would have used that browser) to avoid seeing things you're not interested in on a video website which shows content they didn't make.

We just made the call to slip #Fedora Linux 39 final release another week to fix some remaining Raspberry Pi issues and a few other things. No Halloween release for us.
A little disappointing, but I'm glad we put so much care into making sure everything works as best we can make it — and that we're not asking the Quality team to stay up all not rushing through testing last-minute fixes.
If you're impatient and brave, you can upgrade now anyway, of course.

I think that if UX is dismissed as an "outer shell", it's easy to end up backed into a corner where "what color are the buttons" _is_ the only thing that can be done.
This is probably a better high bandwidth conversion than a social media exchange, though.

I get the sentiment but I can't think of an example where I've seen that happen in practice. Usually the "we'll worry about that later" interface never gets attention, and afterthought UX is limited by inadvertent architectural decisions.
