@npub1zt3…0v09 I used to lie down In the rabbit enclosure when they were on the lawn outside and read books all the time as an older kid/younger teen. It was so relaxing, and I loved how they eventually came to investigate and even cuddle or climb over me! Had to be careful my books didn’t become a snack for them tho, but because there was grass all around them they were less inclined than usual to try to take a nibble of the pages.

It works completely differently from how diseases like that usually work. Very weird. When I first heard about it I was unable to imagine how a protein could do that.

A weirdly folded version of a protein in neurons that also weirdly folds all not-weirdly-folded versions of that protein it encounters in the neurons, leading to a chain reaction and massive nerve damage… that’s really scary but the nerd in me is fascinated by how and the fact that it works

And because it’s become a lot harder to secure research funding, so people who want to research something really cool but not immediately obviously beneficial to capitalism or sth that takes a lot of time and/or ressources have a hard time with that and might have to quit their (potentially promising, exciting) research.

I don’t “believe” in science fiction, I just think that actual AI is still just in the realm of science fiction and will probably stay there for a long time. I feel like the current usage of the word for any kind of fancy algorithm is misleading and PR bullshit to build hype.

Menschen aus dem liberalen Teil der Klimaschutzbewegung die dabei sind sich zu radikalisieren landen bei dieser Gruppe und machen so Aktionen die oft nicht super wirksam sind und bei denen sich einfach der repression auszuliefern Teil des Plans ist, das Ergebnis ist dass viele sehr schnell ausgebrannt sind und desillusioniert aufgeben. Und diese Menschen bleiben auch in einem ziemlich liberalen mindset, LG mag sich zwar als radikaler darstellen als z.b. FFF, weil ihre Aktionen gegen Gesetze verstoßen (aber mit im Grunde genommen selbstauslieferung an die Polizei meist inbegriffen), aber tatsächlich sind LG sowohl in Ideologie als auch in Strategie praktisch genau so liberal. Ohne LG würden möglicherweise mehr Menschen aus der liberalen Klimabewegung tatsächlich radikalere Ideologien und Bewegungen wie z.b. Anarchismus in Betracht ziehen. Menschen glauben weiter dass sie nur die Wahl haben zwischen “Politiker nett um Reformen fragen” und “Politiker etwas weniger nett um Reformen fragen”.

The first step, I had to learn, is to accept that while you may think of yourself as a good person who opposes bigotry, that doesn’t mean you can’t be bigoted yourself. The first step is to accept that you too grew up in a bigoted society, and as someone who does have a lot of privilege compared to most, so you certainly have bigoted thought and behavior patterns in some way, and you are less likely to recognize when more subtle kinds of bigotry are happening since you aren’t affected by many kinds yourself. I get having a hard time with criticism, I have ADHD myself and my rejection sensitivity did make it hard in the beginning, and it was easy to just dismiss that i could do anything wrong, which just worsens things. Being autistic you might know situations in which people unintentionally act in a way that are harmful or unfair to you (one example about my adhd i can think of is teachers expecting me to look like I’m paying attention the way neurotypicals do, and forbidding me from doing things that actually helped me pay attention, like drawing, looking out of the window of small, non-disruptive stims because they made me look like I’m not paying attention. There are probably similar examples from your life where people treated you in an unfair way like that unintentionally because of you being autistic). Of course the things that cause harm to people marginalized in other ways, the microaggressions, look different, but this is basically about learning to not be that person who hurts others out of ignorance. It’s a thing everyone has to learn, especially people who are privileged in a lot of ways, and it‘s not helpful to think about wether you’re a bad or a good person too much, and I know this is easier said than done. Ironically the first step towards getting better at anti-racism is accept the fact that there in some ways is racism in your thoughts or even behaviors (and the same could be said for sexism, transphobia, ect) so that you are able to recognize, examine, and counter it.

@npub1fgl…4jl4 saw this when I was basically already going on your profile to block you, but since you seem genuinely confused about what you did to get this reaction I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and explain it. To explain to someone talking about how the fediverse can be a not nice experience for marginalized, especially non-white, trans, and/or non-male people that they can just block and/or report people comes off as dismissive and condescending, since it’s pretty clear they already know this, and that’s not solving the issue. It sounds like you’re telling them that their bad experiences were because they didn’t block/report enough, that’s a kind of victim blaming. To then, when someone gets upset about this *while saying why* block them, because they called you a reply guy or sth is also not a good move, it looks like you aren’t receptive to any criticism. I think it’s important to, as they say, check your privileges, be receptive to criticism about this, listen to marginalized people and question in which ways you may be thinking or especially behaving in a way that is the result of bigotry (which we are all not free from, since we all grew up in a society full of it).
I’m sorry if I replied in a sort of angry and, I have to admit, insulting way to your comment, I just didn’t think you were acting in good faith and/or open to constructive criticism at that point, and I got kind of angry about your comments because I’ve seen and dealt with way too many people acting like that. I’ve decided to not block you after all so that you can see this, because I too had, and still do, it’s a process that’s never really complete, a lot of learning and growing and confronting my own biases I didn’t even know I had to do when it comes to racism, so I hope you too will be able to learn from this and take it as an opportunity to also do that.

@npub1tfx…n4hu ich bin mir ziemlich sicher dass die Emissionen nicht reduziert werden solange der Kapitalismus existiert… die Zukunft sieht wahrscheinlich sehr düster aus, ich versuche da lieber nicht so sehr drüber nachzudenken weil ich nicht von Verzweiflung gelähmt sein möchte, und denke lieber darüber nach was Menschen dagegen tun können (anstatt auf Politiker zu hoffen die am Ende den Forderungen der Industrie folgen). Der Kampf gegen die Klimakatastrophe und ihre Verursacher muss radikal sein, anders geht es nicht. Ich möchte nicht aufgeben, weil wenn alle aufgeben existiert auch die winzige Chance dass wir dem worst case scenario entkommen nicht mehr.
