I found a different React-based framework that might be better for the Podcasting2.org site: https://github.com/theDanielJLewis/podcasting2.org/discussions/10
Why? Primarily because it supports markdown for page content, which could make it loads easier for others to edit or contribute content without having to mess with Next.js pages.

I say this _not_ to throw Captivate under the bus, but to make everyone aware of this and to also assure everyone that Captivate now knows about this issue and will be fixing it.
The problem is that migrating a Podcasting 2.0 feed to Captivate doesn't actually migrate the Podcasting 2.0 features. Yikes! (But they're now aware and will fix it.)
Do any other platforms do this?
For example:
1. Reseting the GUID
2. Emptying the value block
3. Ignoring populated tags the platform _does_ support.

Let's build things so engaging that audiences are begging for support or abandoning their legacy apps in order to find a P2.0 app that supports those things.
Yes, we podcasters and developers _need_ some of the other features (like TXT), and we should continue building things like that, too. But I think the audience experience (AX?) needs to be the most important in everything we prioritize.

It may be too late for phase 7, but I urge us all to focus our next Podcasting 2.0 developments on what will serve the audiences.
Think of what is that thing that will be so compelling to audiences that they will be searching for a Podcasting 2.0 app that serves that need?
Personally, I think that should be what we've been called "cross app comments," and improved chapters. For those fewer live shows, then more live UX improvements, like chat or video support, should probably be priorities.

I've now tried 2 or 3 Podcasting 2.0 apps that have suffered from these same two problems:
1. Chapter art doesn't change on the lock screen (or Apple Watch media player).
2. Playback control with non-Apple Bluetooth earbuds is a little weird. Actually, I think _every_ Podcasting 2.0 app I've tried thus far has had that problem (except maybe TrueFans, because it's a web app and using iOS's native playback controls, right?).

Isn't it crazy that Libsyn has done practically nothing to support Podcasting 2.0 for all this time, using the excuse that their developers are focused elsewhere.
But within a few weeks of Apple's supporting Podcasting 2.0 transcripts, Libsyn has magically added the transcript tag! AMAZING!

@npub1nej…m48v When PowerPress first support the podcast GUID, it didn't account for multiple channel or category feeds, or pre-existing GUIDs. A later update fixed that, but I think it kept the GUIDs as they were unless you went back to edit them.

I'm going to end up cloning and significantly expanding the data currently being used for PodcastIndex.org/apps. I'll use that both for Podcasting2.org/apps and canipodcast.com (finally launching in probably a month or two).
Should we just shift the data source to its own dedicated repo separate from the Podcast Index site repo, or should we not worry about it and I just create my duplicate (and restructured with much more data)?

@npub1jj6…8q3y I like the detached headphones from #1, and I like the more obvious microphone in #2, because Podcasting 2.0 is for both podcasters and audiences. Do you think it would be too complicated to combine them?
I also wonder if the I's might look more interesting slanted outward slightly, like parallel with the mic body.
And I realized the visual conflict I keep seeing. The mic part has a uniform thickness appearance, but the II has variable. Maybe try rounded slab serif?

Now, when you click into a namespace tag, like https://podcasting2.org/podcast-namespace/tags/chapters, it will show all the apps that support that tag, and you can click through to see what other features that app supports, and then click on one of those features to learn more, then click on an app that supports that feature, then …

It's clever, but I kind of think the circles/RSS/radio signal thing is a bit cliché.
Like, Apple really set the trend with the AP logo, and that's kind of seen as "the" podcast icon, but it's a specific brand's logo. We don't want a Kleenex/Xerox/Rollerblade/Chapstick of logos, and we don't want Apple lawyers coming after us!

When I have absolutely no interest in someone, I don't merely swipe left because I know these apps will eventually cycle back and show her profile to me again. So I block the profile (but this doesn't report it for anything bad).
This also ensures those women I'm not interested in aren't able to find and like my profile, either.

When I publicly asked Dr. Drew about Podcasting 2.0 at Podfest, a woman sitting nearby wanted to learn more. She lit up with excitement over two specific features:
1. In-app live-streaming notifications and consumption.
2. Cross-app comments.
Guys, we _really_ need to get cross-app comments working! I think that truly is the most exciting potential for audiences _and_ podcasters.
We just have some major issues to solve (as I see it, authentication, portability, and moderation).

Now that I know far more about React (specifically Next.js) development, I'm thinking of giving it another go, but moving the whole site into Next.js, which @npub1ln5…xyw6 might find far easier to manage because of App Router.

"Podroll" is only one example. "If it's a tag for recommendations, why not call it the Recommendations tag?"
"Events" is another example.
But my point isn't about these specific features, but how we label and talk about _anything_.

So I urge all of us to think more about the people who will use these features and ensure we focus on the understandability and ease of use for them, and move away from terms that make sense only to programmers or people who were active content creators 20 years ago.

The excuse "it doesn't matter what we call it" is being consistently proven invalid.
Look at Podroll. Everyone talking about it is saying, "Podroll." Buzzsprout launched a "Podroll" section in their podcast settings, but they have to explain it—actually right in the page heading because the meaning isn't obvious!
When Blubrry launches support, they'll probably also call it "Podroll" and thus have to explain it to their customers.
That the name needs to be explained proves it's a bad name.

@npub1mvd…pqg5 The other big thing is that AP requires running _software_. All the other aspects of podcast are as simple as hosting a file somewhere. I think cross-app comments should have that same simplicity. Yes, the "file" might be dynamically generated from a database, but it's still possible for it to be merely a file.
That's the ultimate portability, freedom, and control!
ActivityPub is completely counter to those premises.

2. Can the podcaster remove comments (without blocking a user)?
3. Can the comments be held for approval by the podcaster?
These were some of the biggest issues. And I believe the answer to each of these questions is a big fat "no."
