@npub13aw…kayf ah, cool! Cypher is one of those systems that I've heard mentioned a zillion times but never looked at closely. I think I got a poor impression of Numenera at some point and didn't really bother to look again, which is silly.
I imagine this system is common enough. I started using it in D&D because I found the guidance in the DMG on setting DCs for social encounters to be a bit limp.
It also helps me with roleplaying, which is an area where I need as much help as I can get

On this topic, another thing I've used in the past (that I may have stolen from somewhere?):
When trying to figure out how difficult someone is to recruit to the party's cause, list all of the factors that contribute to that NPC's POV, both positive and negative. Subtract 1 for each positive factor, add 1 for each negative one (increments of 5 probably work better for d20 games). If the result is under 0 the NPC is happy to help. Otherwise, that value is the penalty to the party's rolls.
