About the same story here. Loved OS/2 Warp 4 back in the day. And I remember playing countless hours of Galactic Civilizations on it. REXX was also my first "serious" programming/scripting language I used after Basic. Nice memories. Still remember what a disappointment it was when father had to switch to Windows since he needed it for some application for work :( Only a couple of years latter GNU/Linux put fun back into computing again.

Brez skrbi, pa saj bi računalnik povsem neokrnjen ostal in se ne bi nič pokvarilo ali polomilo :) Samo malo bolj napredne humanistične in tehnične ideje tistega časa bi prikazoval. Na nek način bi bil primerek celo oplemeniten, in celo deloval kot bolj poučna inspiracija za današnji čas in prihodnost. Inspiracija za ideje bolj svobodnih in odprtih sistemov.

Imam tudi sam par slabih izkušenj iz univerzitetnega/raziskovalnega okolja v Sloveniji. Nisem si pa mislil, da je tako zelo slabo. Kot kaže je neoliberalizem/zaslužkarstvo precej bolj opustošil po javni univerzi in visokem šolstvu, kot sem si pa mislil. Zgleda podobno slabo kot v javnem zdravstvu. No ja v nekaterih strankah z njega še vedno lahko pobirajo ideje pa tudi mogoče ga bo kaka prihodnja vlada spet bolj resno začela upoštevat. Pa veliko ostalih ljudi še vedno stvar spremlja. And it makes it even worse if they are available for use free of charge since they have to use even more dark patterns and bad stuff to get money. Na srečo ne in obstajajo tudi učitelji z več integritete in odgovornosti do družbe in se celo malo bolj aktivno uprejo pritiskom vodstev šol (ki so pod vplivom lobistov) in celo učijo v večji meri na svobodni in odprto-kodni programski opremi. Dve učiteljici iz familije učita nekako 50 % vsega svojega kurikuluma na FOSS, poznam pa tudi enega učitelja iz okolice MS nekje, ki kot mi je znano celo skoraj 100 % na FOSS uči.

Mogoče je pri meni pomagal tudi malo trši pristop in da sem poleg korenčka tudi palico uporabil (ne bom več vaš tech support za Windows, samo še za GNU/Linux).
Glede indoktrinacije pa ja žalostno gledat kako se izobraževalni sistem pohlevno uklanja BigTech/GAFAM korporacijam in sodeluje pri tem. Ravno ti, ki bi morali malo bolje vedeti in več pameti imeti in gre od njih precej več pričakovati. Je pa le bolj cankarjanska žalost v duhu »za hlapce rojeni, za hlapce vzgojeni« :(

Oh that past situation is no longer the case. It is like night and day and Plasma 6 is just awesome these days. KDE community learned a lot since then and you should definitely give KDE Plasma 6 a try. Especially on a distribution that does it well like openSUSE, Fedora KDE Spin, KDE Neon, Kubuntu it is very nice. It is no wonder Valve chose it for the desktop mode in Steam Deck.

Pa še znebiš se vse več vgrajenega vohunskega programja in oglasov in butastega "AI" sranja v Windows. Pa na dolgi rok sem po preklopu družine na GNU/Linux ogromno prišparal tudi na času, ker mi ni več treba stalno hodit reševat težav,in čistit zasvinjanega sistema. Win-Win za vse.

Not completely… yet, Switch instance on Invidious still works, just needs a couple of tries most of the time. But yeah YT is getting very, very annoying. I just am getting used to copying the link and opening it in SMPlayer or VLC directly. I guess we need something like a system on mobile phones which can open specific URL patterns in a separate custom application directly :)

No idea. Maybe it can be run from that rescue mode. Or if it can maybe be run from a bootable USB (maybe you would need to chroot into the existing installation, if possible). Best would be to figure out what went wrong and how to make the existing system bootable again. Probably best to write to some openSUSE forum or mailing list and providing the exact errors you get now.

Maybe AutoYaST can help if you decide go with reinstall. You can use an existing installation to create a clone the existing system configuration for future automatic installation. That is, if you can manage to run "sudo yast clone_system" in your current situation. If this can be done then you cna edit the created installation profile and change the filesystems types to btrfs in the created profile before using it for reinstallation.More about AutoYaST here https://doc.opensuse.org/projects/autoyast/

By default openSUSE should create a system snapshot from right before and after the update. And you can then select to boot from that pre-update snapshot from GRUB menu before you boot the system. That one hopefully still works and you can then revert to using that hopefully good and working snapshot. More info here:

Godot on Wayland works fine here for me without lag on a similar configuration (openSUSE Tumblweed 20240909, KDE Plasma 6.2 beta, but also before with stable versions of Plasma, AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE with Mesa 24.1.3, AMD Ryzen 5 7600 CPU). Maybe I just don't hit the usecase that trigger the lag. In any case it would be good to report a bug somewhere (Godot/KDE/Mesa, not sure which one would be the right one) together with the project archive so developers can try to reproduce it.

Yeah it is amazing for how long AMD have supported AM4 motherboards. I went with AMD Ryzen 7600 in part because of this and can only hope AM5 will be supported just as long. And good thing I did not buy Intel this time now that it turned out 13th and 14th gen have quite some nasty defects/problems and the corporation's response is more or less just gas-slighting Intel buyers. Looks liek I will be avoiding Intel for quite some years now.

My old graphics card started to show its age after about 8 years (especially in the more demanding/modern games) and it was time to make an upgrade to a new beast: PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 GRE. It's doing great, even at 4K resolution and I love how quiet and cool it is running even while gaming and using the OC mode. About time the PC takes back some of that gaming time from the Steam Deck :)

Yeah the setting takes whole Down+Up as a click. So case 2 works as expected. For case 1 you have to click the second time to raise the background window.

For KDE window manager you can set how the clicks behave. By default it is the same as on this video. But you can go to System Settings → Window Management → Window Actions
There you can set the left click from "Activate, raise and forward click" to »Activate and forward click« (or "Activate" or "Activate and raise")
