TIL about `tesseract`, OCR software that was open sourced in 2005. It continued to improve and by 2015 it was using neural network weights. When you install it today it includes these weights, which are tens of MBs.
Here's how I use tesseract on my Wayland desktop. I have an `ocr` shell alias with this command:

Then I take a screenshot and type `ocr` in my shell to get the text from whatever screenshot I just took. `wl-paste` is from the `wl-clipboard` package.

It's a stupid small thing but I just added an AGENTS.md note to tell my LLM that it can find source code for relevant projects under `~/src`, which is where I usually store copies of git repositories. For instance, in my nix repo it literally says:
* For reference, a copy of the nixpkgs repo can be found in `~/src/NixOS/nixpkgs/`
What I used to do is find the link to the raw github content, or add the whole folder to the workspace. But this way, I don't have to wait for it to rebuild the embeddings and it just reaches out to find whatever service module it needs to look at when making nix changes.
Cursor doesn't really sandbox the LLM so it has no problem reaching out into other paths on its own behalf. This is a good reason to use Cursor on a machine with limited priveleges.

whups, nevermind - I'm wrong. I just went back to use it again and the usb cable method failed isn't letting me unlock the jade. so the only reliable method for me has been the qr code authentication via blockstream's webapp.
and another wrinkle, when you export your xpub, the only option is segwit. that means no taproot multisig support yet.
topping it all off, I created a 2-of-3 wallet using nunchuk. after adding all 3 xpubs, you need to export the multisig wallet settings back to the hardware wallets. the other two wallets being done, I attempted this on the jade plus and I failed to import the multisig wallet.
exported the wallet from Nunchuk as a QR code (UR format), then used the Jade Plus camera to scan it. However, the scan never completes — the device shows the camera view but does not register progress or import the wallet, regardless of whether we choose bc-ur2 (legacy) or bc-ur2.
In short: we cannot successfully import the multisig configuration into the Jade Plus via QR code, leaving the device unaware of the multisig wallet and unable to participate in signing.

on my continuing my journey of trying out wallets.. today it's the Blockstream Jade Plus.
in my last post, I had a dim view of Cakewallet's opsec since it forced the user to send 20 pubkeys from the first wallet to their electrum servers. I made the same mistake with Blockstream Green. I didn't notice where the app settings were buried. It's under the kabob menu on the wallet screen. I don't remember if that wallet screen was available before I set up my first wallet in there. I set up a Jade Plus yesterday and only today noticed that I could drill into the app settings on the wallet screen.
The QR unlock works, and seems nice on paper since it's airgapped, but it means having to load a blockstream webpage every time you unlock the wallet. That's not great.
I'm just in fafo mode so I tried BLE first. iirc I think they actual discourage using BLE, which is appropriate because it's pretty brittle anyway. besides initializing the wallet via BLE, nothing else worked. The firmware update died mid-transfer three times before I gave up on that. Also I never got the Jade to unlock while connected over just BLE.
I ended up resorting back to plugging the Jade directly into my GrapheneOS device, and that seems the most stable usage mode. The firmware update was nearly instanteous over the cable, and the unlock has been reliable in my first couple of tries.

I initially thought Electrum wallets had to send your xpub to the server — that’s wrong. Cake Wallet apparently only sends individual addresses to electrum nodes.
That said, when installing Cake Wallet for the first time, you can’t remove the default Electrum servers or disable auto‑switching until after creating your first wallet. I wanted to use only my own electrs server, but the first wallet inevitably connects to theirs. That feels like a privacy footgun. I was also a little concerned that they're simply called "nodes" in the "Advanced Privacy Settings" UI. But I loaded the source up in Cursor and asked it to clarify - turns out to be Electrum servers as I was hoping (don't want to run SPV daemon on my phone, afterall).
The wallet isn’t really “burned” — at worst maybe a few generated addresses were exposed — but I still deleted it and recreated the wallet after removing all default servers so only mine remained.
After that, I think I appreciate having an electrum light wallet that supports Payjoin V2 and Silent Payments. Not too bad at all.

if you're on Linux, Chromium integrates well with system keyrings like KDE wallet. that means it'll encrypt your secrets and unlock them when you log in. This can be especially nice if you restart a system frequently. I restart one of my systems once or twice daily, and unlocking Bitwarden is getting a bit tedious.

couldn't buy my groceries today because moonpay authentication is broken for me. It won't send the verification code email and they don't support something simple like TOTP yet. Then I found that even if I prepay a visa card using bitcoin company, when I try to view that card from a US IP address cloudflare blocks me. Okay. So I use an EU vpn endpoint and get the visa card details. Then when I try to add that visa card to my grocery store account, it fails and the UI says unknown error. But inspecting dev console, I can see the XHR response says AUTHORIZATION DENIED. Sigh.
All this would go away if
A) grocery store gift cards were available on sites like bitcoin company, coincards or bitrefill
B) My grocery store accepted Bitcoin directly

I looked for a non-janky sidebar/extension for Chromium to add LLM integration but came up short. So trying it out with Brave. It let's you add openai api-compatible endpoints, so I dropped in my local litellm instance. I'm pretty happy with it so far. The swipe-typing is comparable to gboard, though a bit less forgiving on rushed or sloppy swipes. I am using the fast model and need to try their models to see if I get better results. The STT is basically perfect in a quiet environment. It has a harder time knowing I've stopped talking in a noisy environment. My firewall app shows that it's never even requested Internet access, which is quite satisfying to see! I'd recommend trying it out
