On April 3rd, 1836, the most consequential naval battle between the Texians and Mexicans occurred in the Gulf of America. Texians had to date been ineffectual in stopping Mexican supply lines, and it was critical to stop them as Houston drew Santa Anna further east. The Texas ship “The Invincible” - was anything but - pummeled the Mexican “Montezuma” after The Invincible maneuvered to run the Montezuma ashore before unleashing hell on the ship. Later the same day, the Invincible intercepted and American ship supplying Mexicans with weapons. These weapons were critical once rerouted to Houston’s army.

Prior to Starlink, in 2016/17 I built this in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. Took me about 5 months to figure out. A cheap solar panel, a couple car batteries in a tool box, and microwave about 200 yds to receivers in n the house. Tried fiber lines etc…and always had power issues. Linked up to a cell tower about 19 miles away, and got ~15 mbps down. Never any downtime in 5 years.
Then Starlink showed up and I plugged it in, kinda sorta pointed a dish up, and had 140 mbps down in like 3 minutes. Still amazed several years later.

A little uneven. Some spots were too chewy. It was a smaller suckling, like 25lbs and we cooked it for 4.5 hours. Will do a longer cook, despite the lower weight next time.

Today Texans celebrate San Jacinto Day, the last battle of the Texas revolution. It’s wild that it’s the last battle of the revolution, because the Mexicans still had a ~ 5:1 advantage of troops in the area. However after the battle, Mexico’s president and lead general Santa Anna pleaded for his life after capture. He wrote to Urrea to get him and Filisola to withdraw. Filisola did. None of it makes sense really. The Mexicans just retreated. The Texans won a single major battle in the entire war. Yeehaw.

To give you a sense of scale, on March 12 1836, colonel William Ward stared down 1500 Mexican soldiers - fully equipped and parading prior to attack - and refused calls to surrender. He had about 150 men. These guys were committed. This was the battle of Refugio which lasted 4 days.
It was also a bit of a shitshow. Infighting between leadership, disobeyed orders, and ultimate defeat. Many of the Texian men (mostly from Georgia) would be executed later at Goliad. However, they did just enough to seal the Mexicans fate. Urrea, the Mexican general, was slowed down just enough that he would never make it back to Santa Anna’s main army. That turns out to be a big deal.
