There are problems that are more technical, like efficient algorithms - making them faster or more resource efficient. This essentially is also driven by social problems, but they are quite basic and constant (optimizing time and cost).

Have you seen these ESP32-PICO-V SoCs?

They are an #ESP32 with all required peripherals (crystal, flash, rf filter) in an IC package :o
For $4.25 you can get a square containing 8MB flash and 2MB RAM. That's enough to run Linux I think.
And you essentially just need to connect a battery and an antenna.
