@nprofile…q95k Mastodon as a software is hard to add features to (there is no simple way to add new Post types or handling of post types or whatever). Every change is very heavyweight. Which kinda makes sense. Mastodon is most of the fediverse with millions of users being used to it and depending on it.
But I don't think that the fediverse is done. Other platforms do have some interesting ideas that should be quick to prototype and adapt (think Bluesky's Starter Packs among many other things). New ideas should be simpler to test (in smaller communities). Mastodon can't be that.
Think of Mastodon like a big container vessel. It takes a long time to change course and it's kinda locked into what it is by dependencies. I think right now a few speedboats would be helpful.
