#SolarUpdate so far this month we’ve generated 330KW, fed 44KW of that into the grid (and taken 14KW from it, by accident, my bad) and 43KW into the car. Today we’re out and most of the 25KW we generate (after putting 5KW into the house battery) will go to grid, offsetting our standing charge.
House came with the solar panels, we installed the battery last March, at the moment it’ll pay back in about 10 years.

Home Assistant set-up continues this weekend. I’m still getting over the flu bug I had last week and my partner is currently in bed with it, so what better way to spend the time?
About half the Zigbee devices have been transferred, all the radiators are in as are all the Sonos speakers, and I’ve installed the Ubiquiti plugin to see what that can do for me as well. I’ve successfully integrated the IR blaster so it now takes genuinely one click to turn on the TV and surround sound, with the TV on a specific HDMI input (1 or 2).
Some of the automations in the old system have been duplicated in the new.
I’ve also discovered the joy of firmware updates over Zigbee, which are painfully slow (but at least possible for some types of device).

@nprofile…xm2e I’m aware of a case when I worked at EDS where somebody sat at home for THREE YEARS on the bench because he had a heart attack and during convalescence his department was eradicated and he dropped between the cracks. This guy called in once a month regular to get assigned to something and eventually was told “don’t call us, we’ll call you” - it was so on record do he was in the clear when HR eventually discovered him again and did some digging.

The BBC now blocks people within the UK from reading “in depth” articles on their UK site if you’re not logged in.
So my licence fee isn’t enough any more, it seems. I mean it isn’t like the site carries a huge volume of news stored these days anyway, just look at how often new articles appear under Science or Technology, so I’m not sure what the expect to gain from this.

To cut a medium length story short, we’re all most comfortable when there are no expectations around our behaviour so it’s unsurprising that you feel you belong with other misfits who in one level at least have had the same experiences of not fitting in and having to deal with “normies” reactions to them being themselves.

@nprofile…7x4l speaking very personally for a moment, in my view, ADHD peeps, we’re not looking for validation, we’re just being ourselves and not giving two shits about what people think, I don’t know about you but the other part of that is not judging people. I do weird shit, I’m not about to judge anyone ride who doesn’t fit “expected norms” whatever they are.m, I’m just gone to get on with life.

I’ve taken up the cheaper policy, I’ll cancel the Churchill renewal tomorrow. When a company takes the piss that much they don’t get a chance to match the quote I’ve found, I just tell them they were too expensive and that’s it.
It’s a bit like tyre shopping. When a tyre fitter says “call back of you get a cheaper price” my response is “I won’t be calling back, I asked for a price and you’ve given it. If you can go lower, this is your only chance to do so”. Works like a charm.

Car insurance renewal time. Churchill, who I’ve insured my Tesla Model 3 with since purchase four years ago, have decided that my renewal should rise from about £675 last year to nearly £1100 this year 😰
I always, always shop around at renewal and this year they’ve been caught out. The same policy from them via the meerkat site is less than I paid last year, and I have also been offered a policy by another insurer that is even cheaper. Same terms. Slightly higher excess. #CarInsurance
