@npub1pww…tc65 @npub1xm2…w2qs totally agree. I've always seen 'Green' as a progressive package of environmental and social justice issues, and that's why I've generally supported them. It was like that even back in the days when we could vote for the Values party (showing my age there, but they were my first vote in the general election in the 1970s). A party that just focuses on the environment might appeal to some people, but would would take some votes from the Greens and be too small to make any difference.

@npub1pww…tc65 It was interesting, especially after the Greens won three electorate seats in the general election.
I see the common question, "Why can't the Greens just concentrate on the environment and not all the social justice stuff?" has popped up again after James Shaw's announcement yesterday.
I think this quote captures the Greens well.“We uncovered four distinct profiles that differed in their pattern of support across seven attitudinal domains; value for the environment, equality, social justice, wealth, belief in anthropogenic climate change, views about historical injustice and reparations for Māori, and value for Māori culture.”
There's no contradiction in being concerned about all of these things -- I am.

@npub16gp…qsw5 We also have some of them here in New Zealand. When they have run-ins with the law, like with the speeding ticket you mentioned, and go to court they try to argue the same, but judges never let them get away with it. On the other hand, despite believing that laws don’t apply to then, they also seem to be connected with people who declare themselves sherrifs and try to arrest public officials and politicians and try them for crimes like saying we should get vaccinated against COVID. Totally illogical, but amusing to watch.

@npub17el…9py6 That’s a shame. Is there some info online about the Whitaker’s skink project? I know someone in Pukerua Bay who was involved but they were a bit mysterious about it for ‘security reasons’. I think they were part of a captive breeding programme. We’re very attached to the story of them, even if it’s generally accepted we don’t have any more living wild in the reserve along the coast.
