At my high school in the early 00's we were taught math (of all subjects) for nearly 2 years by a dude who had zero credentials to be a teacher and didn't know diddly squat about math. 2 whole years of complaints and many failing students, they went ahead and fired him, because an ex-girlfriend of his showed up and decided to rat him out, because of some issues they had, think it was money that he owed her. They did it reluctantly as well.
We also were taught for nearly 2 trimesters by a convicted pedophile, who ended up raping a girl on school premises as well. Instead of being handed over to the police, the school threatened the girl and her parents, and the rapist was sent on his merry way, in order to avoid a scandal.
I'd be shocked if an actual criminal background check was performed nowadays.

They estimated my JRT at 4 years old. She was at least 8 years old when I got her, fuckers. Then again I probably wouldn't have adopted her had I know she was that old, seeing I had an 18 month old dog already, and wanted a younger dog along side her. It was the best fit ever though. So it worked out great. But it happens the other way round too. YMMV. Living creatures and all that. Ya never know.

When I adopted my JRT from the animal shelter, there was an 11 year old dog. An elderly couple came to adopt him. Got to talking to them. They'd been doing it for at least a decade already. Adopting the old dogs. The last one they had adopted they only had for 2 months, but they said it was worth it. The 11 year old was one of the youngest dogs they'd had in a long while. Shelter had called them specifically for that dog. I can see myself doing that when I'm that old. Be more like fostering that actual adopting, I think.

My rottsky was born in March '09 and in December '09 it started to snow. I remember it very well. It was around 10 pm and I was watching a movie. "Zwartboek". I never saw the end. This dog had never seen snow, heard of it, couldn't possibly know what it was. She was inside, couldn't look outside. Something inside her got charged. I was bitten (use that word loosely here) in my ankles, knees and elbows. She grabbed my joints put pressure on them, was yelping. In other words, I needed to get the hell outside, cause SNOW. We came back at 1am. 🤡 It was freaking cold, yet I was sweating. Amazing.

The company that asked me was actually specifically targeting women in the hopes of gaining employees. They had posters throughout town with women working as electricians. Heard that a construction company was targeting high schools trying to get girls to go into construction, going there and giving presentations targeted solely at girls, because the shortage is huge.

So in the town Almere here in the Netherlands the shortage of teachers (THAT WAS ALREADY ANNOUNCED IN THE 90s!!!!) has now led to 5 schools there doing the “unthinkable”, 4 school days instead of 5.

Okay so my mother is physically fucked. Chronic pain, busted back, COPD, old age (only 73). It means that I take on some of the care duties including cooking. It's impossible for her to stand for any length of time, it requires too much movement. Basically it's easier I do it. It pains her, she loves cooking, she loves food. Luckily she taught me well and I ended up a pretty decent cook - to my mother's chagrin (she'll never admit it though) a better one than her. Muhahahahahahaha.
But what annoys me beyond anything and I must say this has annoyed me since I can remember, because my mother has always been like this, is that she'll find a recipe, gets all excited about it, cooks it, pretends it's to die for, cause it costs quite a bit of money to make, when there are so many decent cheap options ahem, and then a day later confesses she didn't like it one bit and only ate it, so I wouldn't say "I told you so." Because I told her she wasn't gonna like it. Duh!!! Except nowadays it's I who has to do the cooking and the cleaning (in fairness all voluntarily and happily because it keeps her alive and stuff) when I hate (not an exaggeration unfortunately) cooking and even more so the cleaning.
Yesterday she picked out this vegan dish, which is fine, but it was with lentils. My mother does not like lentils. She knows she doesn't like lentils. The woman is 73 years old and for all her life, she hasn't liked lentils. It's not all of a sudden going to change. She however loves the idea of lentils. All her favorite TV chefs cook with lentils, praise lentils, omg lentils are so healthy. But she fucking detests eating them.
At least this time it was a vegan dish and therewith the no waste of meat, like another dish like two weeks ago (6 portions in total argh!!!!) that had €12 of meat in there (that I had planned to use for something else btw), but had too much tomato something in it, which she cannot handle anymore now her digestive system is changing, but is hard for her to accept. And she had the idea that at that point she could handle it, because she conveniently had forgot again how it messed with her stomach, keeping her up all night, even though she had had only a handful of bites of the dish.
Today I told her I wasn't going to make her another recipe she had found, because she had too much food in the fridge already to pick from and there wasn't anymore room left. She eats so little nowadays compared to 10 years ago. She had breakfast for dinner today. Whatever right.
SMH, it's hard sometimes and to imagine there's a good chance I'm going to be just like her when I get to her age. :blobfoxdisapprove:
