Hello @npub1u6s…vn8n and erotica #writingcommunity. Are any of you worried about the #Smashwords / #Draft2Digital merger specifically regarding #erotica titles? Smashwords has always been the place where you could publish niche genres that wouldn't be accepted on other platforms. D2D seems a lot stricter. One of my books got delisted completely after having been sold with no issues for years.
Once again it feels like being punished for playing by the rules. What do y'all think?

I am currently uploading the rest of my eBooks to #Smashwords and #Draft2Digital to finally have everything published wide. I did make more money with #KindleUnlimited but I think with #AI generated #eBooks on the rise, this would no longer be the case anyhow.
I believe in publishing wide both for doing a small part in fighting the Amazon monopoly and not putting all my eggs in one basket that can change the rules on me on a whim.

@npub1dzj…4cun One of the erotica writers I met on Twitter, Alana Church, sells exclusively on Smashwords and makes good money. But I think it's a different game than Amazon. Especially if you don't want to do a lot of marketing, Amazon and KU is nice because it gives a little even if you don't advertise.
I personally just got tired of Amazon's bullshit and pulled my books from KU but it's not an easy decision to make if KU makes up a significant part of a writer's income.

@npub1dzj…4cun Yeah, I know. The one of mine they removed was non-con too.
I'm not sure if they explicitly disallow it in their ToS but what is the most likely is that either someone flagged the book or they added something to the algorithm that determines if the book is on the index.
Smashwords does allow non-con, so it might be worth considering. It's not Amazon in terms of size but people do go there particularly to buy erotica.

I had one of my books taken down overnight too. I wouldn't put much hope into getting a reply. I've tried so many times in the past finding out why a book was blocked and I never got a human to respond even a single time.
If you are looking for a new home for the story: Kobo has a subscription service similar to KU. Not sure about how shit the pay is. Smashwords also has a "pay what you want" option but only one single person ever paid for my shortie 😅

Have your friends and/or family read your books?
None of them have read my erotica unless they figured out my pen name and found my books or my blog.
But I do write non-fiction too and I have written stories specifically for friends and family members, for instance a fairytale-like story featuring my sister's childhood plushies as a recent Christmas gift.

#[0] I think content warnings are great but I have discovered that once you put a content warning or mark the post as "sensitive content", there won't be any preview shown if you post the link elsewhere which is, in a way, punishing those who play by the rules. I don't have a solution for this because I don't know how this works on a technical level. It just would be nice if I could opt in to see adult content in link previews too.
