An Australian Parliament staffer was caught with classified docs for which he lacked the required security clearance.
He also exaggerated his seniority to others, suggested he knew people at ASIO (our security org) and claimed he was soon to be employed there (he was not).
Immature, dishonest, insecure men with grandiose spy fantasies are so overtly obnoxious, surely we could screen them better?

The process of extricating myself from Google's clutches has been... turbulent. Being technically 'capable' hasn't prevented me from wasting countless hours trying to solve problems caused by a combination of Google's villainy and my own imperfect grasp of its machinery.
I feel as though I've spent the last week being sabotaged by an enemy I can't quite get a lock on. I'm tired of it, but I'm even more tired of being Google's b***h. And so I'll press on.

I've just installed #GrapheneOS on a second-hand Pixel. The web installer was so easy to use, it was trivial...
... except when flashing the image failed multiple times and I was stuck in a bootloop. 😨
A stressy web search revealed a possible issue with USB device access on #Linux. So I did the "Linux user's walk of shame" - to my husband's Windows laptop.
And then it worked. Haha!

- hourly observations

Our govt says it's not planning to ban TikTok, and that this decision is based on advice from our security agencies.
If the US knows something big, but Australia doesn't seem aware of it, this would have to mean the US withholds stuff from its "five eyes" allies - it is possible, but unpleasant to contemplate for the junior partner in the relationship... us Aussies. :)

@npub1wst…ez75 Yeah, it's craptacular. I noticed your handle in a number of reports we got. It's such a pain.
If the dodgy accounts are all using the same providers of disposable email addresses (as I've heard they are) it would be good if all the instance admins prevented new signups with those addresses. Or even just temporarily restrict signups.
In the mean time, we'll keep playing whack-a-mole. A horrible non-fun version where there are no prizes, only pain. Lol.

@npub1eqg…fncn @npub159j…kfaf I considered it, but I was worried I'd run into an issue I wouldn't have time to fix. I did have lots of tables, figures and citations - this is what decided it for me.
Ultimately, I ended up spending two hours trying to get Mendeley Cite to integrate with Word (it just wouldn't!) so I may as well have just tried the pandoc. :P

I have to use Stupid Word to write an assignment. No other formats allowed; I asked.
This is quite the departure from my usual workflow (#neovim + #texlatex).
I don't have time to consider better options, so I was going to install Stupid Word on my beautiful untainted machine (I don't trust the online version to not mess up the formatting), but my husband said it's already installed on his laptop.

I have a nasty habit of stumbling upon government cover-ups. A few times, I was just poking around public data. Another time, some reports looked strange, so I kept scratching at them until I discovered why.
It's genuinely starting to get annoying. Just once, I want to analyse public data without finding something weird. Because it's starting to look like my government is comprehensively crooked - and I literally don't have time to deal with that right now.
