@nprofile…jmrh I can also totally see how the status quo emerges from genuinely user centred practice - often we focus on "who is going to use this" and it takes a couple of leaps to demonstrate that it's as worthwhile (in fact, I'd say vital for GLAM orgs given our histories) to include the question "who can be activated/transformed *to* use this?"
It's the latter which can help broadening approaches without being naive about who would initially find these platforms engaging/useful to begin with.

Just checked out the latest online collections archive from Historic Environment Scotland (which looks lovely) and it got me thinking about how often online archives start with familiar 'landing page' type patterns as opposed to 'onboarding' patterns... 🤔🤔🤔

Maybe I need to write something about the influence of Harlots on British TV because the way it's inspired OSTs (e.g. the one for 'Joan' starring Sophie Turner) and even swear words (watching the thoroughly mediocre 'Black Doves' and hearing one of the lead villains describe someone as 'cunt struck' was like whiplash - like who's actually said that since the 18th century?) is so wild.
Now if *only* it inspired in other ways like, commissioning more drama about working class communities...

I especially love the bit around 28:40 when the interviewee talks about how a working class man 'must be' interested in politics otherwise 'he can't think much of his country'. Not to mention the different worker perspectives of mechanisation in the docks (good for making things safer/faster but bad for job opportunities)
