Not sure there's all that much cause for celebration. Sure, it's good that the French didn't succumb to outright fascism, but Melenchon has a history of pro-putin, anti-NATO, thus anti European security opinions. Nor does it seem to me there'll be much chance for a cooperative government. The French model requires that the President, the Prime Minister and the Parliament agree on something, otherwise nothing works.

One pipeline? There have been several incidents in the Baltic Sea in the immediate past. NordStream, Balticconnector, Estlink, Baltica, several fiberoptic lines that don't have names as such..
The good news is that unlike the gas and power lines, the telecommunications fiber cables DO mostly have plenty of alternate routes and capacity, so total disruption is very hard to execute. Striking a routing exchange would do that, but would be a visible aggression.

Finally someone writes what should have been the obvious approach to using frozen russian assets for Ukraine's support: issue bonds with those assets as the collateral, use their interest proceeds to service the debt.
Eventually russia will lose and international courts will decide on reparations, which will settle the matter. But until then, this is what the debt market exists for.

Although you can follow a hashtag, you can't add one to a list, which would enable limiting its visibility exclusively to that list.
However, with a client like @npub1l5t…qq33, you can make a column for a hashtag (even from a foreign server!) without following it.
Frankly, no one should use the default Mastodon web UI or app. They're way behind the curve on both features as well as usability.

I could buy Ukraine's strike planners having the agility to define a retaliatory strike in just a couple of days, but the question to ask would be, if they knew of an important, within reach military target, why didn't they strike earlier?
Whereas I don't buy that russia has such agility (these terror strikes are planned at least a week in advance - consider the missile routing) nor that they have any such targeting intelligence.
Propaganda agility is another thing though.

And there's so much more to platform risk than distribution. Google has deplatformed people from their own documents. YouTube has kept content around while stripping authors of their ad income. This new jailing is temporary. Border control will need to apply to a lower court to hold him for more than a couple of days, which I'm sure they'll do, but the court may decide to release him. Regardless, eventually the investigation will end, he will be found to have entered the country (and EU) fraudulently, be sent to russia and banned from entry (which he was, already).

Unlike the first test launch, this time around the launch pad looks fine afterwards. #Starship also took off very cleanly and the "hot staging" or separation looked controlled - the booster's initial turn seemed fine, too.
While both stages exploded, this time the automated flight termination worked without delays. Curious to hear what the triggering anomalies will be determined to have been.

A bit of weirdness I hadn't noticed before. While you can #search #Mastodon on free text now, it won't find links. Meanwhile, the Trending/Explore view has the "News" section which will only show links (along with metadata like "125 people shared", but not the toots themselves).
So Mastodon will recommend you links people talk about, but will obscure the talk itself. Do I have to explain the ways in which this can be actively harmful?

Back when I was in the business of developing large consumer facing web sites (200x's), Google's answer to this was AdWords, then DoubleClick. If you operate the ads on not only the search page, but on the destination pages too, you win both times. Google did. And does.

That mine, under its old ownership before the state had to pick up the pieces, caused some pretty horrid environmental impacts. The Finnish mining regulation lets the claimant and operator off the hook for what they leave behind, and Terrafame is the result. Even if the state managed mine is able to turn the operation into profit, it will never recover the environment - so sustainable, it is not.
Still, at this point better they do something than let it languish, uncared for.

Not stopping development of new coal, oil and gas extraction today, combined with investing heavily into replacing 4% of those energy sources with renewables every year, simply means that a hard stop of even the existing fossil energy comes ever closer WITHOUT alternative, renewable sources being available when they'll be needed.

Interesting! Healthcare has always been vulnerable to both monopolization, cartels and fraud, as the customer doesn't have the expertise to assess vendors and most often doesn't even pay for the service themselves (whether public or insurance funded).
I guess it should have been obvious that actors most attracted to running monopolies, cartels and fraud would be drawn to such sector.

Conflicting statements is one of the most common tools they have used over years, if not decades of propaganda. It's not even meant to confuse the audience, but to make the claims harder to counter, as the goalposts keep shifting.

Energy prices jumping around between €0 and €200/MWh doesn't seem like a situation very conducive to investments in either power generation or industrial consumption.

While other messengers like Matrix/Element have only recently rolled out E2EE at all, Telegram continuing to pretend that encrypting only some comms, and those with proprietary algorithms is enough, and others like Mastodon just don't even try, Signal is now rolling out post-quantum cryptography with an upgrade to what they call PQXDH.
Now the rest of us would just have to trust that this time, NIST specs haven't been spiked with backdoors..

There is no rocket motor on the grenade as carried - just the grenade. The propulsion system isn't included and the armor-piercing effect of the grenade isn't based on velocity, but shaped charge.

Federation in the ActivityPub and AT protocols are significantly different. Anyone can run an AP node, and one can exist as a community even without federation (example: Truth Social). Anyone can also run an AT PDS (plausibly, one could run both on the same server), but no one reads one directly - they're indexed first, then collated by a labeler, feed gen and appview. bsky.app is primarily the latter layers, and those are where moderation happens.
