My "favourite" is that we have many traffic lights around here that only change when the metal detector embedded in the road surface detects a car pulling up to the default-red direction. Those detectors are tuned to detect vehicles with at least half a tonne of metal in them. Ride up on the heaviest bike you own, there's not enough metal there to turn the light green.
So lots of drivers get to see me run a red light, confirming their stereotypes.

That's their whole point. There was this trend a few years ago where people who think the only gun safety measure you need is not to shoot stuff you don't intend to shoot - muzzle, trigger, and safety discipline are all unnecessary. They made a thing of "owning" gun safety "scolds" by chambering a round, cocking the hammer, disengaging the safety, putting their finger on the trigger, and pointing it at their own junk.
It ended exactly as you'd expect.

The bike rack standards in the bylaw only apply to parking that is mandated by the bylaw.
Specifically, if your development was approved before bike parking was in the bylaw, then the bylaw standards don't apply to any bike parking you happen to have provided.

The whole point of a political "base" is that those are the people who can't be swayed. Any party that only gets the votes of its base, loses. To win, a party needs the votes of its base plus those of a wide segment outside that base.
Fact checking is about preventing liars from expanding support much beyond their base and thus, hopefully, making political victory something accessible only to honest people.

As I understand it, that doesn't exactly track - I think the first recorded indication that Dec 25 was considered Christ's birthday (not even that it was necessarily celebrated to any great degree) is from the 4th Century, when Constantine I was emperor, Rome was rapidly Christianizing, and persecution of Christians was a thing of the past - though probably still in living memory.

Historically, Canadian airports had 2 letter call signs, then added a Y prefix if the airport had a weather station, and a W if it didn't, so pilots would know how much weather information they could expect when planning a landing. Basically any major airport had a weather station, the Ws were just lonely little airfields.
When the IATA mandated 3 letter calls signs, that format was already in place.

Yeah, almost all those people would have lived through the Holodomor. I am not qualified to know what other options existed for someone who wanted to try to fight against the Soviet Union. Were there regular Wehrmacht units taking Ukrainian volunteers?
Kind of like Finland I guess - if you wanted to fight off a Soviet invasion, you didn't have a lot of choice of allies at the time.

@npub1k4q…3lsq It seems like Poland's education minister has a bit of an odd relationship with Nazism himself - demanding that memorials to Jews murdered by Poles in the Holocaust be removed as "anti-Polish" slander, and comparing LGBTQ rights to Nazism.
Also why would it be an education minister who requests extradition? Wouldn't a justice minister fit the bill better?

As I understand it, it is likely significantly less toxic than DEET (though less studied because newer).
In my experience it works about as well as DEET, and doesn't stink.
