In high school, the dad of a friend of mine was a composer and had a thoroughly soundproofed music room in the house, so anyone in the family could play their sundry musical instruments at any hour of day or night the inspiration might strike, and not disturb household or neighbours.
This power of sound damping did not extend to bagpipes - those still had to be played only in daytime.
