Voting is not actually compulsory. What is compulsory is to go to the polling station and have your name crossed off the voting roll. You are then given your ballots. You could then write "they are all shits" across your ballot and put it in the ballot box. That is what is known as an "informal vote"!

As an example of shifting the window to the left:
=advocate for a wealth tax of 1.5% on wealth over 10 million. Accept the compromise of 1%
= advocate a top tax rate of 55% over £200,000 (A$400,000) Accept the compromise of £250,000 (A$500,000)
And so on.
Don't advocate for a little. Go for a lot, and scale back, so you get what you want. That's what the Right does.

But to run a renewables grid /without/ hydro is much harder. S Australia is a true leader in this, and what it learns will help other countries/regions do the same.

Paraguay. But it gets half its electricity from hydro. Iceland --- geothermal.
S Australia is getting there: 70% of its electricity in 2023 came from renewables (no hydro). Up from 0.6% in 2007. A trend setter, showing it can be done.

To stop catastrophic climate change, we need to slash emissions by 90%. ASAP.
Instead, emissions keep on rising.
We need to go on a war footing, to replace coal power stations with renewables/nuclear; to switch our car and lorry fleet to EVs; to replace gas heating with electric; to use green H2 or methane in industry; to stop eating meat. And we aren't.

I joined a French class at the local learning centre. We started going to a local hotel (Oz doesn't have nice pubs like the UK, but its restaurants are excellent and cheap by UK standards). A little community. Whenever I get the chance, I talk to them about climate change.
Oh, and my French has dramatically improved.
