CURL is an exception, as are projects like the linux kernel, etc. But folks are paid for much of that, so it's a false equivalence to count code folks are paid for.
The maintenance... I'd be willing to bet folks pay or would. If they don't, we found the first candidates to cut.
CURL would be one of those packages, so yes Daniel, we all depend on your code, thanks for writing it.
Other code... Far less sure. Whole programming languages could disappear, and we'd be broadly fine.

I don't think they need donations; certbot and ACME exist. They've been proven. Go sell them to industry.
They need to be honest that even with automation, there are massive costs, associated with our deeply flawed system of trust. That the mass adoption of SSL has to do more with lowered barriers, than actual trust or performance in the tech.

Right I'm, just not sure that NI is just pension.
It's not a bank account. It's not an option. UK nationals cannot opt out of AFAIK, or fill up and then stop paying because they paid in enough. Folks do face shortfalls. That shouldn't be the case before folks start giving hand-outs overseas.

Consumers are bamboozled with figures, acronyms and initialisms
Interest rate 4.44% (below bank of England) but APRC 6.7%
Another product with higher interest rate, has lower APRC; due to a figure which is constantly in-flux.
APRC feels like a lie banks tell, rather than a useful tool to communicate.
No UI options to consider APRC over 5 or 10 year trends

@npub1g0t…tvm4 doesn't help that many Vets seem to seek the most expensive paths, rather than prudent ones though. A Vet asked us recently, to lay out 3k to satisfy her curiosity over what a bit of our cats ear looked like, which she could not reach.
My dad laid out 7k, and his cat died miserably (they took out most of her inner ear).
My wife says they are undergoing their victorian period RN. Over emboldened by what knowledge they have. Perhaps over-zealous on how to know more.

I Think it's more that besides the big builders there can be a lot of "wannabe property investors".
We went to buy a sofa over a decade ago, and the salesman was telling us about his intention to seek "backers" (see marks) for his house building investment scheme. He had planning permission.

Beautiful, but I never found the tutorials that instructive; I Checked the 2006 one they have for drawing rocks etc and found it to be accurate to memory.

The issue with housing associations, was that they were given, mostly fair condition stock, for free, or extortionately low price, and yet they are usually quite a bit more expensive than government social housing; save for the few, that were corporations, setup in front of councils, to access free EU money.
The decline of housing stock quality, is mirrored in the private market from the bottom to the top, with a few in the middle at a high standard for a single family.

Every single person has a bias, which means they skew one way or the other, be that frontend vs backend, infra config vs bare-metal, automation vs very intricate; hard to automate tasks.
The employer just wants you to be able to tweak in their frontend stack, or run npm commands most likely. Although good HTML, CSS are a win; the state of internet shows it's not essential.

As a former software architect, I can tell you, people like that are why I won't work under that title any more. It's short-sighted to the point of negligence. They were lucky to get 10 years from "the marketing copy said it will be okay".
Companies try like the plague, to operate on trust; sometimes refusing to negotiate legal agreements. If someone's "trust" means they won't put it in binding writing, then they are not to be trusted. And it's not trust if you use a contract.

We fundamentally disagree it seems on software ethics, and how we process sales and marketing materials.
I Have and always will have, zero trust in any commercial business. I'm not aware of a single commercial entity that ever existed, where trust was not misplaced.
Newsrooms, especially modern ones, are businesses and should pay.
Newsrooms could absolutely upload their little interactive to github, if they want it preserved forever; or use archive.org; or whatever hosts their site!

I Hear you, and I agree that non-open platforms, with a nice UI or integration mechanism are a risk.
FWIW Heroku still works and exists, they just stopped being free and as low-cost as they once were; and that felt predictable to me.
IMO, It harms smaller enterprises to have giants offering those free-tier plans; even if they do make tech more financially accessible, it feels like rug-pull offering.
15 years is also a really long time. I Notice Datasette has some great deploy options.

So disabling all for c/c++ should prevent this. Feels like it should be another setting, but I can't find another.

You have to have the seed of knowing how to:
- use vendor package
- compile code
- use debugger
- switch interpreter / compiler (docker is a good answer here, just volume-mount a pre-built and go; if you can't find a pre-built, try a "buildpack {language}" search)
- write tests (with core libraries)
- write tests (with vendor libraries)
- find 10 common vendor libs & use
- pkg & ship a vendor lib

It's stable diffusion in a few hundred MB, rather than gigabytes. Almost small enough to deploy.

I gotta plead ignorance on what WordPress.com is offering since early 00's. Sure would be nice to have @npub1ksy…89q5 or one of their staff confirm.
If you died, (guessing not all buyers will have 100 years); then surely at that point it would not have to be rendering using PHP
